FYI I purchased mine new 12/94, a Russian .380 IJ-70 w adj sights.
I figured I would just assume a mid 90s date. I was just curious and thought maybe there was some way of telling by the serial number.
Thanks for the info.
If it's commercial, you're probably right about the manufacture date being in the mid 90's. I don't think there was any market for commercial Makarovs before we had "normal" trade relations with Russia.

I'm giving a link to some helpful information on the Makarovs and in many cases, the codes to date of manufacture...I have a Bulgarian in 9 Mak caliber and found the date by using the tables shown...if the information is not exactly available there, link from that page to other pages that will probably be of help...hope you find it.

Thanks. I have been through Makarov.com, without any luck. But for now, I'm pretty satisfied with a mid 90s guesstimate. One of these days I'm sure I'll come across some serial number references for the Russian commercial Maks.
