Wanting a little more out of my hi-point...

I've had my hi-point for about 5 or 6 years now, got it for a birthday present way back when. Since then I have probably put around...oh...6-8 thousand rounds through it. I guess it is just something I have gotten used to, but whenever my dad shoots it he constantly complains about the trigger pull. It got me thinking, could I be more accurate if the trigger pull was better? Are there anyways to make it better?

Don't get me wrong, I love the gun, and I think that it performs well as is...but sometimes you just want a bit more, you know?
Here are some more recent targets-

First thing I'd try is a little polishing. Grab your finest steel wool, and get going with a gentle polish on the trigger and anything in that area.

I've never worked on a highpoint, you may not want to, but it's what I'd try first.

With those groupings, what trigger problem? Your Dad just needs a little more practice time with you at the range. It's called bonding.

I think his trigger finger may just be getting weak in his old age XD

But his complaints did get me thinking about it...I guess as long as I can shoot it well it doesn't really matter.

It is hard to Polish PLASTIC with steel wool...and have it do anything...

Good point Moose. Don't polish plastic.

Just buy a new one. They cost not much more than a Mosin Nagant Russian rifle!

The Hi-point does have a craptastic trigger. Not the pull so much as simply the SHAPE! It has a very uncomfortable feel, and the trigger guarg molded in the stock is far too small - the edge of it rubs my trigger finger.
Eventually I will be trying to reshape the trigger and make an all-new guard.

I doubt a new one would have a much better trigger, not too mention I am just now considering this one "broken in"...pretty soon I'll be cleaning it....maybe.

BTW, I just got a Finn M39 a few weekends ago, I think my Hi-point just got set on the rack for awhile.
