so i've been looking into these over under guns and haven't been able to find any in made in the 22-250/ 12 or 20 gauge combination. I'm wondering if anyone on here has heard of such a gun and has any information about it. seems like it would be a good choice to me but if they don't exist then it doesn't really matter.
That combo is either non existant or very rare. I've seen 410/410, 22 mag/ 20 ga, 22/410, 16, 20, 12 combos, 357/ 20, 30-30/ 12 also there was a 222/12 ga combo I think. I wish I still had my catalog on the Stevens/Savage line of guns, They had barrel inserts for alot of calibers too. Good Luck! You never know what might show up at and auction or gun show
They also make it in 22 Hornet as well. I have never seen or heard of one in 22-250 however.
I collect combination guns, double rifles, and drillings, and I doubt you will find a combination gun chambered for 22-250 on the rifle barrel. I fifty years of collecting I've never seen a combo with a 22-250 barrel.
You might look into the German , and Italian made combination guns. The tend to be a little higer priced but are far better in quality than the Savage/Stevens combos, and have a far better choice of chamberings.
I think in the .22 cal you will find only .22 lr, 22 Mag, 22 hornet, 222, and in the older guns 22 HP. I know Merkel makes a combo gun chambered for 5.6X52R (22 Savage High power), but i can find no listing for a combo chambered for 22-250. The model below is closest to what you are looking for under a 12 ga 2 3/4"
Model SL III
Photo to come.
The model SLII can be obtained with either double rifle barrels or combination barrels. The calibres available include:
dugaboy1, thanks a bunch, that's the type of info i was looking for.
what's your opinion of a 12/.243 win combo??? i think the ammo would be easier to find and would cover a ton of bases with the bullet weights available.
Okay, here's one for y'all. In October on a hunt in Kansas I handled a double barrel (side by side) with a 12 gauge barrel and a .50/110 barrel. Ghost ring sights. (though they looked more like the sights on a WWII anti-aircraft gun). Wish I'd taken a pic of it. The feller that had it is a guide and uses it for wounded pigs in thickets.

adkbrookie, the 243 Win is one of my all time favorite deer cartridges, be it whitetail or Mulley. Of course the 12 ga is the darling of North American shotguning, and that combination, as you say would cover a lot of game animals in the North America.
The Europian, and Japan made O/U combinations are made properly with the rifle barrel on the bottom. The shotgun is very low pressure, and is the reason it is on the top, while the rifle cartridge being from 35000 CUP to 50,000CUP is on the bottom wher the O/U is the strongest. Merkel also makes an O/U double rifle, chambered for 243 Win, which would be one of the best double rifles for deer hunting you could design!
Like you I think the 12Ga/243 Win combo would be the nuts!

I would venture to guess that this was a double barrel shotgun conversion. How was the rifle barrel installed? Was it simply a liner slipped inside the old 12 ga barrel, or sleeved into the butt of the old barrel? Whic barrel was the shot barrel left, or right?
This type of combination is known as a "CAPE GUN" and the rifle barrel is usually on the right. Since the rifle barrel is chambered for the 50-110 I doubt it is a factory made cape gun, and considering you discription of the sights it doesn't sound like a real slick job of conversion.
I have two cap guns! One is a H.Berella made about 1900 in Berlin, Germany. It is of course a S/S, top lever, with exposed hammers, on side plates. The left barrel is a 16 ga shot barrel, and the right barrel is a rifle chambered for 8X57 JR (.318 Dia). The other one is a V. Haffner Damascus barreled, exposed hammer gun, on Back action side plates, is a Jones under lever action. The laft barrel is a 20 ga, and the right barrel is chambered for the 58 Berdan carbine, cartridge.
The Berella was chambered for the short 16 ga when I got it, and was choked double full choke. I had the chamber opened up to take 2 3/4" shells, and had the choke opened up to modified choke. The 8X57JR rifle barrel pushes a 196 gr RN soft point @ 2450 FPS from the 26" barrel, and is dead on top of the front sight at 100 yds, while the 16 ga will print a Breneke slug right beside the rifle barrel also @ 100 yds every time! With shotgun shell in modern shotcup ammo patterns a dense 30" circle at 30 yds, and is a very handy gun for hunting Muledeer in far west Texas, and New Mexico where deer season coinsides with turkey, and Blue Quail season. Before I got a Cape gun it seemed every time I saw a Quail, or Turkey I had my deer rifle in hand, and if I took off after a cuvey of Blues, with my shotgun, I'd jump the biggest deer in the country. The cape gun solved that problem.
The other cape gun. the Haffner, is a black powder cartridge gun, and the rifle chambering is for an obsolete cartridge ( 58 Berdan carbine) which has to be made from 577NE cases, shortened loaded with black powder, and uses a cast lead .577 dia bullet. The shot side is chambered for the short 20 ga which I modified a 20 ga 2 5/4" die to load it with black powder, and 7 1/2 shot for doves. That big lead bullet drops deer in their tracks at 100 yds, and doves are in serious danger when they fly withing 30 yds of that barrel.
Cape Guns are not only neat to play with, but are very seious hunting firearms!
If I could figure out how to get pictures from my Photo bucket account to this forum I'd post some pictures. At 73 yrs of age I'm computer chalanged for sure!
is what you are looking for. they came in a variety of combinations. I had a 22mag/20ga and i kick myself for getting rid of it
you can find them on guntrader
