Cmp special ships this week

My M1 CMP special ships this week. I got a call from Jenifer yesterday verifing my shipping address. She says it will be here this week via Fed Ex. I just ordered it at the end of September. This is way ahead of the projected time frame.

Lucky for me I ordered 06 dies last week and they are ready to pick up.

Congrats! I really want to get one and put an adjustable gas plug in it, then go banging away!

I hope you are happy with the one you get. I have a customer coming in this morning with a list of issues with the one he just got. Some cosmetic and some functional.

Thanks, Dean-DGR

Why would he be going to you with the rifle? CMP is known far and wide for making sure the customer is 100% happy with their purchase.. They bent over backwards on a $495 Field Grade HRA I bought last Feb. The gun shot high, and they completely rebuilt the rifle, basically turing it into a Correct Grade.. The only part that wasn't HRA was the Op rod and I found one and swapped it out. I wasn't charged a dime for any of this work, and didn't have to pay for shipping, either..

I'm not saying that you aren't fully capable to do what needs to be done, but CMP would do whatever needs to be done at ZERO charge..

Just sayin'..

I was waiting for someone to reply to this post. I cant imagine someone to make
judgment on anything he has yet to see.

Good for you Shooter--- hope you are happy with your new!

Bad for you Dean----- Theres much more knowledge here on the subject that you can imagine

So with that said---I bought a dog for $500-guess I should have you look at it

CMP Issues

My buddy had some issues with his cmp special. Ie the front sight was loose and the gas plug was loose. He corrected the issues him self. He also contacted the CMP and informed them of the problems. They advised him if he had any more trouble to send it back and they would go thru a full check up.

While I hope my M1 special has no issues I know the CMP will make it right.

Thanks

Shooter.

PS: when I found out I was getting my rifle this week I set my tumbler up to clean so 06 brass. I forgot about it in the garage and it ran for 32 hours. You should see this brass!

A loose gas plug is not a problem. Any rilfe should be completely dissasembled cleaned ,lubed before being fired. That would have been taken care of in reasembly

Wow what a hostil group! I did not say anything against the CMP I simply stated the customer was not happy. Plus he only lives 35 miles from our shop and did not want to go through the trouble of shipping it back to CMP.

Most of his issues were not merited and he walked out of here a happy customer and pleased with what he had from CMP.

And just for the record...I also purchase from CMP and have always been happy with their customer service.

Sorry if that seemed hostile, but your first post seemed somewhat like an advertisement, and many of us have made several purchases with CMP.. The guy's first call should have been to CMP, plain and simple, and for several reasons..

First, return shipment is simple.. It requires calling them for a sticker, and taping the box shut. Drop it off at any location that ships out UPS.

But, more importantly, CMP needs to know what the issue was, and they need to fix it.. That way, they're aware of the issue and the last thing CMP needs is some guy out on the internet saying that he bought a CMP Special and it was defective, and he paid someone else to fix it.. CMP does these repairs for free and will bend over backwards to make sure the customer is 100% happy with the purchase.

If I spent the money for a Special, waited 2-3 months for it to arrive, and had a defective rifle, I'd be upset too. But I'd call CMP (the place that supplied the weapon) rather than a rifle restoration supplier..

And, if I were a rifle restoration supplier, I'd offer all the above info to the guy before having him drive to my shop.

We don't know if you did or didn't offer the info. We don't know what you charged the guy for work that would have been free. And we do look out for each other here on this gun website. That's why the posts may have seemed hostile. Again, it was also your first post, and that post was a bit spammish, which just added to the looking out for the CMP purchaser..

If you spend some time reading posts, you'll find we're far from hostile here at G&G. It's not a Good ol' Boy network, but a spot where old timer's and young shooter's postss are enjoyed and answered.

Look at it from a different point of view and I think you'll see why the posts were what they were.

I did go back and read my original post as Mr. Paper suggested and I do owe this forum an apology. My post had no benefit to the happy guy soon to receive his CMP rifle or anyone else for that matter. No excuse from me, I do apologize. I also agree, nothing should be expressed on these forums that might be damaging to others until they have had all opportunities to resolve the problem.

Now I do take offense to my integrity being brought into question when asked if I charge my customer for my services and if I told him CMP could solve all his issues. Assuming Mr. Paper that you are not just some forum bully that expects all to answer to you, I will answer your questions. Yes I did charged the customer for my services…that is how I make a living. But keep in mind, he called and asked for my time. His issues were cosmetic, something CMP does not do and he had seen enough of my website to know he wanted me to correct what he felt was needed. Just for the record…his complaints about CMP to my office manager had no merit. He had looked at the pictures of M1s shown in the Shotgun News and American Rifleman and assumed that all M1s would look like those. I cleared this issue up by taking him to CMP’s website and showing him the pictures supplied by CMP for this class of rifles. But I digress…my integrity is my most valuable asset and I work hard to never be tempted. I even declare cash on our income ledger, (give onto Cesar what is Cesar’s). So in the future, please don’t question my integrity until you have some honest reason to do so.

Sorry.. And no, I'm not an internet bully.. What I am here, is what I am in real life..

And as far as visual looks of the gun, I thought Specials all came with new CMP wood, which should look perfect, as it does in the ads. (and I'd think CMP would make that correct, too).

You're right, you are a business and should charge for your services.. The person at fault here was the guy who didn't contact CMP about not being happy with his purchase.

For $1000, I'd expect exactly what's advertised from CMP.

If he didn't get what's advertised, and didn't go back to CMP about his concerns, it's his fault. Again, sorry.. As I mentioned, we look out for each other on this site, and with years of purchases at CMP, we know what to expect.. Usually, it's better than described, and sometimes MUCH better than described.. Anything less has always been addressed by CMP in a timely manner..

Most of us here also have spent tons of hours cleaning and refinishing wartime stocks back to condition that we'd expect of a wartime weapon. If your customer wanted something like that, or something even better than that and didn't want to do it on his own time, it's understood as you offer that service.

Hell, the best grade I've purchased was a few service grades, and the one that arrived with CMP wood is my least favorite. Granted, it's pretty, but it's not original.. I've had way more joy buying field grade weapons from CMP and working stocks back to a presentable life..

Just looking out for the consumer, and in this case, he wanted what you had to offer.. Sorry for coming down on you, but on this forum we tend to look out for the little guy and do stuff ourselves.. In my case, it's because I'm cheap!!

Update: Rcvd new garand 11/20

To all that have been following this post. I got my rifle. Looks great. Have not had time to take pictures or fire it yet due to work schedule. The CMP did a very nice job on this rifle.
