looking for info

Hello and good day to all.

I am pretty new to muzzleloader shooting and hunting, i have had a flintlock .50cal tradations for a few years and i have shot it about 45-50 times. and i have built a Kentucky long rifle kit that is a percussion cap and its brother the pistol kit, the rifle has not been shot but the pistol has been. and last year for christmas i got a CVA wolf 50 cal and i have shot it alot trying to sight in the scope i put on it.

in the flintlock i shot a sabot and loose powder and its not all that had to reload till you get to about the 4th shot then its time to clean,

with my in line i am only able to shot 2-3 rounds im shooting th
e power belt arrow tips with pyrodex pellets,

my Question to you folks that know alot more about these rilfes than i do is there a cleaner burning powder than the pyrodex pellets so i dont have to clean my rifle at the range every 3 shots??

With a modern in-line you can use Blackhorn 209 powder. It's not compatable with your percussion or flinter. With certain rifles you just about have to run a patch down after a few shots. I would take loose powder over pellets. The 777 & Pyrodex is O.K. but neither is clean & I wouldn't let the gun go long without a good going over.

To answer your question, B209 is the cleanest, when it can be used. It needs a hot 209 primer in a modern in-line.

I use Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubber to clean the bore very thoroughly and then with sabots,no lube of any kind and have shot 40/50 rds with no problem. The lubricated patches,I use a nylon brush about every 10 shots keeping the muzzle tipped down so everything goes out instead of in.This is on sidehammers.I use alcohol and gun scrubber and absolutely no water, and when storing any spray with teflon and clean thoroughly with gun scrubber before firing again.I leave the plug out of inlines and leave closed breech as open as possible. As long as they are in a controlled atmosphere I have no rust problems. ,,,sam.
