I know, it is not really an AR15 question, but there doesn't seem to be much action on the "Other Military Firearms" section, so I figured I'd get more reaction (abuse?) by posting here. :-)
I am in the market for a 308win/7.62x51 AR-style rifle/carbine. Probably 16" barrel, in an A4 configuration.
My question: Would you go with the Armalite AR-10 or the DPMS Panther LR-308, for roughly the same price, and why?
Or, would you choose a different mfg for an 308win AR style rifle/carbine, why?

Thanks in advance.
Whichever way you go, make sure it will accept the FN-style magazines. I know Rock River's .308 rifle will accept both metric and inch FN mags, and they're decently priced from what I hear.
Also, I know that Rock River makes a damned fine rifle at a decent price. Give 'em a looksee...
They used to use modified M14 magazines but they may have changed to something else.
Between the two rifles mentioned I would choose Armalite.
Thanks. I went with the Armalight AR 10A4CF for $1,233 from Buds Gun Shop. The reason I asked was that Bud's also has a used (90-100%) DPMS that comes with nine(9) 20rd mags for $1,200.
I also read that Gen-II Armalite mags are a new design, while the Gen-I are modified M-14 mags - something to do with the Clinton Assault Weapons Ban, which doesn't really explain anything to me. Apparently the Gen-II came out just after the AWB expired in 2004.
But I wonder... I have a bunch of M14 mags for my M1A SOCOM16. I wonder exactly how they are modified to fit the AR10, and if I might be able to mod a few myself. Hmmm. Of course M14 mags aren't really any cheaper than AR10 mags, which seem to range from $45- $85 each on the net.
Funny, aside from AR15 and AK47, I find that all of my magazines are that expensive these days.

The ones I saw had a small square cut at the upper portion of the mag body close to the locking lug. It's been too long since I've seen them so I can't remember for sure and there may have been another alteration as well that I didn't notice.

Either DPMS or RRA. I think. I can never find the stupid link when I need it! The only problem with using these mags is the bolt doesn't lock back on an empty mag. But since I have a CETME in 308, I don' have to worry about mixing up magazines, as the G3 mags would work in both.
