Bubba
Yes..THIS word..many of us know it..but when we each say it what meaning does it hold for us..for me it means plain out fu**** up a mosin..so what does this word mean to you?
To me it means customizing a rifle beyond the point of easy restoration. I have seen some so called bubba jobs that were carefully thought out and looked very professional, and would be acceptable if the same was done to a modern rifle. Then again I have seen some that were definitely dated and looked faddish.
Bubba equates to using a hacksaw after drinking a 6 pack. The cuts are never straight and the original stock is usually present but also cut up. Also, the finish can be a blotched coat of spray paint.
To me it means ruining the Value of a Mil-surp weapon to make some cheap looking deer rifle worth 50% less or Less...
Value? its an $80 rifle (find me a cheap $40 deer rifle and I'll buy it!)most already worth less than half of the cheapest sport rifles avaliable? your logic alludes me..If they are worth so much more buy my m44 for enough for me to buy a bolt action deer gun. Again really help me understand what you know that I dont here?? Even the russians kept bubba'ing older models into newer more practical model mosins so I guess they were meant for it in a way?
If done right it just makes it worth more and more practical to the owner....I agree that it shouldnt be done to a rare collector gun or rare mosin but all kidding aside the reality outside of this forum is their were like 50 million of these made and the run of the mill mosin won't be worth squat in our lifetime or are childrens
I understand being a diehard purist....I belong to auto forums and on the corvette and vw beetle forums there are those there who chastise for any alteration of the vehicle ....even painting a rusty beetle upsets people let alone converting to a kit car or buggy. Bottom line is different people look at the same thing differently.(point of this thread i guess)...I look at it as if its mine I want it to be the way I like it and make it mine but I do respect other choices to do what they want with their posessions. I modded a beat up mosin into a hunting rifle and learned and had fun doing it, at the same time I wouldnt to it to the like new m44 I own but I actually paid more for the beat up gun than the new one, go figure.
Hell the way some talk here I'm suprised the dont flip out about historical surplus ammo being shot it? isnt it just as valuable really?

Spoken like a true Bubba. The cost has absolutely NOTHING to do with it. It's the desecration of a historic piece. It would be like putting fins on a Ford Model T.

When I was in the Navy my Bo'sun called everybody "bubba". So I have fond memories that enter my head every time someone says bubba, so when I see a rifle with the term bubba next to it I think of CWO Eilers.
I personally dont care what someone does with their own property. To each his own. I love looking at pics of modded Mosins and to see some backward hill-billie having fun with a rifle just touches my heart. The industrious American spirit being taken out on a Russian rifle.

or turning a model t into a hotrod and we both know which is more valuable and more fun to own... In fact they are one of the token stereotype hod rod vehicles of choice. Again, a matter of choice with both making sense....there's no "my way is the right way" with this, Its narrow minded to think that way.
Let me throw this out there.....
If everyone thought like you and preserved their mosins instead of modifying them or "bubba"ing them how many hundreds of years do you think it would be before there would be few enough unmodified models out there to actually drive the value of these guns up?
Exactly....your argument is sort of an oxymoron since nothing is really a collector item if the market is flooded with them and they are a dime a dozen. You should be encouraging the bubbas out there if anything...

Bubba? Whats it mean? Well this is what comes to mind to me... stupid,
unteachable, backwards, shoddy workmanship, offensive, discusting, ect.
ect. ect. Actually I really hate the term Bubba and think it should'nt be used. If you have a rifle and have done something to it , and its refered to as a "Bubba Job" you have been insulted. Its as offensive as a racial slur spoken against one. Some people get almost as upset about a sportarized rifle ( done good or bad) as they would if you messed with their family.Or at least they put about as much emotion into it. I see no reason to get this fanatical over what someone has done to THEIR rifle. Its just a rifle, rare or common , just a rifle.Sure I've seen a few rifles and thought to myself ,what a shame, but I'll find one I like, guys theres bigger fish out there to fry.

And where did you see me type the word collector or collectible? I'm talking about wrecking history, not a "collectible". I do not own a collectible rifle. They're all working rifles. If I don't fire them, I don't buy them.
And once again, to hot rod a Model T would be to desecrate it.

That is one UGLIIIIE bubba Ganny.
As for Augiedoggy, This thread was about what do you think of when someone says bubba. Its not about any of us saying you cant buy a mosin or a mauser or a 30/40 Krag and bubba it all you want.
As for your ludicrous assertation about Mosins not being worth any money and never will...The same was said about 30/40 Krag Jorgensen rifles. After all these companies cut the stock down the originals which were not worth anything and because there were so many never will be are going for $1200 and up. The bubba 30/40's are going for around $150 if that.
The same story for 1903 and 03a3's. They were cut up. Originals go for $1000 and up. Bubbas about $200.
You dont know what will happen tomorrow. How can you say what the price of something will be in a year?
As for anybody telling anyone they cant cut up their rifle. I dont see anyone on here stating that. Hell Im all for you cutting up all your rilfes Augie. Just make sure you cut the barrel and the stock. And show us the pics of your bubba rifles.
