Hello all, this is my first time posting on the forums. I just bought my first Mosin Nagant 91/30 and I am in love with it. Unfortunately upon deeply inspecting it I found a possible problem with my barrel. Where the rim of the ammunition meets the barrel there appears to be something wrong. I will post a picture to give you a better idea.
Any info or advice is appreciated. Also note when I fired the rifle previously, it fired flawlessly.

I swear that almost looks like a piece of rim from an old fired cartridge that looks like it separated from the case and did not eject. Is it the same color or a different color from the rest of the chamber?

Well then if that piece seems solid and in no danger or popping out and since you've said it fires well you should be ok Honestly now that ive looked hard at it, it seems to be just a piece to securely hold the chambered round.
Thanks a lot. I really appreciate the quick replies also. I officially have been claimed my Mosinitis
t(^_^t) I ordered a sardine can of surplus ammo today too. I can't wait for next weekend

Only thing looks wrong with that chamber and the locking groove is that it needs a good cleaning. Get yourself some mineral spirits, picks, Q-Tips and Simichrome and get at it!
