The cancer gun

Last week me and my dad went to Gander to get him some 223 ammo and see if they had 7.7 jap and we checked out the rifles for kicks. He seen a gun that he called the cancer gun, it had a 3 round internal mag, mauser type bolt action i think, but what had us confused was this small metal box on the right side of the gun. Definitly mil surp and old. Nosing around the net I found the Krag rifle. Can't remember the box's shape to well.

Any sites on the net for marks, or values, or other rifles like it would be appreciated as its getting late and I got a dog to put down in the morn.

Only rifle I can think of with the box is the Krag-Jorgensen.

thanks for the quick help guys. I'll probably pick her up today because it looks to be military, not sporterized. The link HK770 posted said they only fire low pressure shells, will that cause it to be a wall decoration or is there another option besides reloading, don't have the room for all that.

That does make it sound like a Krag.

But I can set up a reloading space on just a Black And Decker Bench Mate, so room is no excuse.

went back to look at it again today, noticed most of the blue is gone, and someone added a different sight by the bolt but the originals are still there, looks like the add on is attached by a screw that is already part of the rifle but for $300 and an unknown ammo situation for it, internet is being funny, i hate computers..... lol

$300 ???????? WHAT??????
Are you sure the stock isnt cut down???
The stock alone if not bubbaed is worth more than that.
These usually go for $1000 around here if original.
$150 if a bubba.

Looks to be in good condition, but someone has chopped down the stock. I do believe that those rifles came with a stock that extended the full length of the barell. The add on peep sight is a nice touch. Did it infact use a factory hole in the reciever to mount the peep sight?

factory made ammo 30-40 is not hot.
