AH congrats to you too buddy!
I am a lazy IL shotgun hunter... I use an H&R Ultra slugger sabot gun with a scope LOL! However... I was used to using my 870 with standard slugs so I find myself shooting too high on the long shots... in fact (hang my head with shame) I shot over the top of that nice doe that surprised me by the edge of the corn! LMAO... oh well, I spotted bigger down there anyway!
Nice pics Jerry! That terrain reminds me of the riverbottoms where we squirrel hunted by my place... lots of fun draggin deer... buddies had to drag their kills not only off the hills,,, but through shin deep water and mud to while we got the four wheeler.
Best of Luck boys.. December is the four day deer extravaganza.. we will see!

This has been the worst deer (gun) season I have ever had in the 25 years I have hunted. 4 days now and notta darn thing. All the trail and feeding cameras are showing activity at 2-5am. Nothing at all in the daytime hours. I did have 8 wild turkeys come within 10 feet of my blind this morning. Come turkey season they will switch places with the dam deer.

ack. I believe the rut needs to kick in harder so there is a greater chance of them screwing up. I just got lucky and shot a couple dumb young ones.

I took a trip with three hunting buddies to the mountains in our hunt area last Monday, because we received what appeared to be enough snow to start driving the elk down a bit lower,...
...along a ridge and canyon area that had previously been know to hold elk.
We saw several hunters...
...and not one elk, not even tracks.
The hunters we paused and talked with...
...also expressed how they hadn't seen elk, except for one hunter who saw four after a day of looking the area over on his four wheeler.
Very unusual conditions...
...which we also saw in another location within our hunt area earlier in the season.
Our hunt for elk ends at the end of November...
...and we'll be heading out at least one more time to see how it goes.
One thing we did learn that validated what we saw and felt in the first area...
...was that a renegade grizzly had been relocated into the area.
We had seen grizzly skat in that area...
...and felt that there was bear close by.
Sure enough...
...and, the .44 stays real handy.

I'd also gone out earlier to try and fill a deer tag...
...and experienced a similar missing animal condition.
We saw lots of track and skat...
...but not the imprinters of track or droppers of skat.
Which is very unusual for this area...

ACK, I had the same problem where I set up my popup blind. Tons of tracks going right past the tent and nothing all day. Realized they were coming in at night and had to move to the other side of the hunting ground to where they were at during the day.
Like Jerry said though, let the temps cool down a bit and maybe try some stalk hunting and you should find them!
Good luck, got the 4 day coming up!

Shot two does on Sunday. I missed a nice 8 pointer saturday morning. I don't know what happened but my .44 was shooting way low. Should have shot him with my shotgun instead.
There was tons of standing corn on the farms surrounding my farm as wet as it has been in IL, so that put a damper on a lot of movement in the woods. I still have my tags filled and good meat in the freezer. Taking a few does out of the population never hurt anything in that area thats for sure.

Also opening morning in Pike County it was so foggy you shoot a lot further than you could see. I only had 3 does pop out of the fog and duck back into it before I could even set the cross hairs on them.

Cool. Gotta love Pike Co. Down in the triangle. Always good to cull the does here, yes.

I was down near Peoria on a buddies lease. I counted 20+ deer opening morning by about 10:30. I didn't fire a shot the 1st day. The 2nd A.M. I took a doe after about 5 deer came by. A little later I took a nice 9 ptr. We made a run to the butcher. On Sunday morning I filled 3 anterless tags from one stand over about an hour period. That was all the tags I had & will not make it back for the next period. I do have 2 M-L tags & should be back for a few days later in Dec. I brought a shotgun along but used my Knight Disc 50 cal as the gun of choice. The weather seemed pretty good for the 3 days.
