I have my .270 win. for long shots. need a 100yrd max gun. I can buy a slug barrel for my 835.+ scope--- or buy a .3030 from family ,prob. alot cheaper.
I like my 45/70 ruger #3 and with leverevolution ammunition it'll shoot 200 yrs pretty well. Light, short and easy to handle. 30/30 have killed a bunch of deer it also can be a 200 yrd gun with leverevolution ammunition.
You're in a win-win-win situation. The .270 will shoot as well up close as it will out far. Don't think I ever knew anyone that bought a slug barrel that wasn't glad they did. Turns a good sporting gun into a good booger man gun (minus the scope), and the .30/30 is a classic.
Putting bullets through brush is pretty much a crap shoot anyhow.

If you're actually shooting in up close and personal in brush, I'd put a decent red dot on that slug gun. Personally, brush guns are carbine like a Marlin/Winchester or a 16" barreled semi-auto. I'm using an AR-15 carbine as a brush gun. Very handy, but it's going to be significantly more expensive than any of the above options.
Your .270 will work fine up close. I shot 2 deer with it's father the 30-06 last week. The first was at 5 yards almost strait down from my tree stand and the other was a big doe at 15 yards.
Now if you just want another gun then I'd say get a Marlin guidegun in 45-70. It is short light and handy. I have one that I use in the brush sometimes.

There really isn't such a thing as a "BRUSH"gun.Any kind of projectile can be deflected by brush, but the faster the fps, rpm, and higher the energy, the less it will be deflected. In other words,a .270win will go through brush better than a .30-30 or 12ga.Before you call me on this one,try it.Many times I have tried HV,s like the .243win and found they went through brush much straighter than standard foster type slugs from a 12ga,if they didn't blow up on the way, which the 12ga never did.One thing for sure, taking a shot through even mediocher brush is very chancy. On game animals,I don't take chancy shots. What I class as a brush gun is one that handles fast and accurate. Not one that shoots through brush. ,,,sam.
yep, Sam's right about the high velocity through brush. That would actually make a short action bolt gun or AR-10 or AR-15 a better brush gun than a .30-30. But, the .30-30 is an excellent close range firearm that should not be overlooked. Just don't try to shoot through heavy brush, period. If the shot is not clear, be patient and wait.

No you don't need any other gun and here's way. There's know such thing as a brush gun except your 270 is as close to be'in one. LOL.
Your 270 shoot's flat thus being able to go through brush better, You gotta do your part and pick an opening though.
Because most if not all 7mm bullets are co-effisiant which means they rise LESS or shoot's straighter thus makeing you able to shoot through branch's, brush and limbs.

I use my .270 for everything...I have killed deer with it less then 5 steps from my stand. I own a 30/30 and a 12G slug gun...while you don't need another gun, if you really have your mind set...then I would recommend the 30/30 over the slug gun every time.

If it were me I would get a Marlin 336 in 35 Remington. It's amazeing folks over look the 35 Remington. it may be because stores only stock 30-30's
The 35 is a better caliber than the 30-30.
It seems like when people hear the term "brush gun" they automatically assume the person means that they will be trying to shoot through a briar patch or a straight through a tree. Obviously that's not going to happen. I use the term brush gun to refer to a compact, fast handling, rifle chambered in a short range caliber. Not necessarily a caliber that will punch through leaves and sticks and the like, but a caliber that doesn't need to shoot flat or still be carrying a whole bunch of energy at 200 yards. Maybe even a handgun caliber.
I have a Puma Model 92 in .45 Colt and with some CorBons or some hot hand loads, I think it would be a fantastic brush gun. Something in .44 Mag or in the .35 caliber range would also be appealing to me as a brush gun.

I think a few factors are missing here.
What state are you in?
What game are you hunting, & how BIG of game?
Or, what could be hunting you!
What is the terrain like, big trees, tall grass, or thick brush.
I personally swear by "brush guns". (mostly lever actions)
Living in Alaska, I want a shorter gun, that has maximize knock down.
So I prefer my 45-70's or .450 or 12 GA.
Back in N. Georgia, I used my 12 Ga, .44 Marlin or Winchester.
Michigan & California was my Winchester 30-30's.
Arizona 12 Ga. (noisy rattling snakes)
AR-10 & 15, ak's also work well. especially in swampy areas! LOL
Just my point of view.
Good night!

Any size twig will deflect any size bullet to some degree. The question should be "to what degree".The answer is "it depends on how much resistance the "branch"has.A pine branch wouldn't deflect as bad as a hickory.A 1/8th" stick wouldn't be as bad as a 1/4" But both deflect to some degree. ,,,sam.
