I have a 10-40x50E SF sniper scope with red and green illuminated objective R19 mil dot reticle on my rifle made by IJK Optics. I bought it brand new at a gun show for $300.00 includes the heavy duty six screw rings. It does well in the field and I feel satisfied with the quality for the $. I can count the number of 1/2" buds on a single branch of a chapparel bush at 300 yds. clearly! Shock proof, water proof, antifog proof, nitrogen filled, and full lifetime warranty. Their site is ijksales.com ph. 602-6906976. There is another co. called Nightforce optics which produces high power magnification scopes but they are kinda pricey, out of my league. Try checking these out for some choices. Good luck USMC grunt. M.C.

Sweet, thanks for the info M.C. any idea of about what the max effective clean kill range is for my rifle. What ammo do you recommend.

That .22-250 will bust a coyote way farther than any hunter can shoot; about 700 yards, as Samuel said in a different post. I don't have a .22-250, so I can't make a great recommendation for ammo, but I would say stick with Remington and Winchester. Dropping a coyote is not difficult, just see which load your rifle shoots the most accurate. By the way, is your Remington 700 an SPS?

I have other setups in .22-250 but the one I favor for around 500/600yds is a M788 rem action with a Douglas 26" varmint class barrel and original wood, glass bedded receiver and freefloated.I just put a 6.5X20X50mm Loopy on it but had a Nikon, same power and it was about the same.Any of the medium price range in 16/24 max power variables are good in my experience.Stay away from the bargain scopes, not because they don't work,(I don't know much about them)but from what I have seen the glass gets foggy beyond 300yds.One other thing,I think some mfg,s are putting faster twist on .22-250,s.I would love to try one in 1in12"twist so I could use some of the 60/65gr bullets out there.I have no trouble with a 1in14twist out to 600yds using 50gr varmint bullets.I just believe a heavier bullet would take some of the "IFFY"out of it. ,,,sam.,,,,,by the way, thanks for your service, and welcome aboard.Semper Fi.

Thanks sam, i am having a hard time with this because i like to look through the darn things before i even consider buying one. Ive looked at a couple "lower" end nikons and bushnells they are crap. All the ones sold on shelves round here(i live in indiana) are 150 or less. Again, crap.

You can get a Nikon BuckMaster 4.5-14 SF in 40m objective with a Bullet Drop compensator for $300. I have one on an AR-15 that I shoot Prairie Dogs with. It is a great scope.

Talking Ammo for .22-250

Tack Driver is right. You just have to experiment with different brands and loads to find the one that the rifle likes. It sounds funny but rifles are temperamental. When you find the one that produces the best group stick with it and use it to hunt with. Kinda pricey but try Hornady with the plastic tips. They are extremely accurate and you will get excellent bullet expansion with them. They fragment better on impact and with a little bullet like the .22 for coyotes bullet fragmentation would be needed for maximum damage. Good luck. M.C.

I'll go the Hornady route for accuracy, but they would break me with my shooting style.I just buy their bullets and try to duplicate. As for "lower end"scopes,I stay leery of them.I have found that you can buy a scope that is cristol clear and due to dust and such in the field, you will soon have a haze from cleaning the lens. The cheaper the scope the faster this happens. This is personal experience.Dust protectors are very important to me whether the scope cost $100 or $1000. (years ago you couldn't have given a scope to me for hunting, only targets) ,,,sam.

Yes,they make scopes, but not in the $300 range. It would be difficult to get one used.It can be difficult to get one new because of their military contract. They are a work of art.Just put "trijicon" on your search. There is much info. ,,,sam.

I am going to start out with a Bushnell 3x9x40 on mine and maybe upgrade before P-dog season next June. I have found when calling yotes they are always in under 300 yards before you see them and at times a lot closer.

Back in 1972 I used to get a lot of yotes with just a 4x Weaver.

I would recommend a Mueller APV 4.5-14 X 40 AO scope...$115.00 delivered to your door. I have one and the glass and Light gathering quality is EXCELLENT for the price. Lifetime Guaranteed and comes with a free sunshade and The dealer is a Great Guy...I know him personally.

I dissagree that all shots are at 300yds or less on coyotes,or any other varmint.Even with slightly failing eyesight I can see motion at 1000yds+ and quickly ascertain what it is with bynoculars. From there it is my discretion as to what range I think I can take them.We have long, wide swamps here and you can get on high ground and see possibly a half mile.I often make shots as far as 500yds+.I have hunted coyotes all over the U.S. and the longest shot I ever made on coyotes was outside Rock Springs, Wyo. with a 7mm mag at 628yds.We couldn't tell how far until someone drove the pickup down and we could get a reflection with the rangefinder.I love hunting varmints at long range.(also love hunting at short range with any kind of handgun available) ,,,sam.

1/4 mile is only 440 yards , and I can see a house cat or a fox at that range in the open without any problem with the naked eye. Coyotes can be seen even farther away due to their size, and I have seen wolves cross the highway at well over a Mile...shooting them at those ranges, However, takes skill , practice and an accurate rifle and ammo, and a good scope with a touch of Luck !
