Magazine question

I've read that the German G3 magazines work just fine in the CETME without alterations. But that hasn't been my experience. I can't even get them to seat properly. I've also heard that the G3 accepts CETME magazines just fine.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I have had no problems with the aluminum HK magazines I've purchased from RTG. However, some people have had to modify the magazines a bit to function properly and I'm sure they'll weigh in here to help you out. I don't think the change takes much more than a little file work.

It depends on the particular rifle - you will find examples of all variations - one mag will work the other won't, or vice-versa - or both types work. The mag catch is sometimes cut a bit off.
Mine seems to work okay with both steel CETME and HK alloy magazines, though the HK mags are tight at first and need to be slapped in the first couple times.
Century's workmanship (or workmonkeyship!) varies over time. My assembler monkey apparently had a good day.......

I use both CETME and H&K mags in my CETME. The G3 mags are a little tight and don't drop free. The CETME mags fit just right and don't drop free. I took a ruler to the mag well, and found that the walls are slightly bowed in. When I get the rifle out of hock (I hate being laid off) I will straighten out said walls and everything should work fine. YMMV.

Some of the G3 mags I got worked fine, some I had to modify. I took a Dremel type tool and just opened the magazine latch hole on the magazine up just a bit, trying it each time after just a bit of grinding. I only took off a bit on the top edge of the hole. They work fine now.

My G3 mags work flawlessly in my CETME. No modifications, either.

My Stainless Cetme receiver won't work with Cetme mags, only HK mags.

Many of the receivers being produced are for HK91's. While very similar there are many small differences in dimensions that can have an effect. Most being HK receivers will work with the HK and cheaper mags, many can utilize both

If you have a century build it all depends on the monkey that day. My cetme used to accept both but after a few hundred rounds only the g3s will lock in my mag well.
