Am thinking about getting a blackpowder pistol and am kinda new to black powder anyways. But heres my question, can you use cast bullets in the pistols or just round balls? I know the powder charge will depend on bullet weight and the length of the bullet would also be a factor but will they work? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Though either way I will probably end up with one.
you can use conical bullets specifically cast for the type of gun from virgin lead, they differ from a modern cast bullet in design but yeah you can use them, in some cases they're more accurate
Generally, round ball well be more accurate from a revolver. The key is proper ball size. Most revolvers well need the chambers reamed to achieve this. If you are getting noticeably better accuracy from conicals, it may be because you have small chambers. The conicals when fired well expand slightly at the base and seal to the barrel better than a under sized round ball.
Conicals can offer better results as a hunting bullet if you have the room for adequate powder.
