AR15/M4 Rail and Sight Questions

Hey gents, recently purchased my first AR platform rifle and had a couple quick questions.

I want to add rails (obviously) and need to know if the Daniel Defense 9.5 FSP would mount to my carbine with no gunsmithing. I have the LMT Defender 2000 M4 style rifle and like the look and functionality of the longer rails. I need something that will be stable for optics also. I am curious about all this because it doesn't say "drop-in" so I don't want to end up with something that will be a pain to install.

That DD can be viewed here
may be viewed here: http://www.danieldefense.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=26

If it came down to it, I could go with a shorter drop-in rail system and be happy, but I wanted to check on this first. Do you guys have any advice on this that may lead me in one way or the other?

My other questions is in regards to optics.
I do want a quality setup, but I don't want to get ridiculous on cost. Which I have noticed can be really easy to do...

I am kinda looking around at the EOTech M552, or others of similar price. Could anyone point me in a direction on this? Anyone that own or owned one have any feelings about these? Other suggestions around that price range are welcome!

Thanks dudes. I am excited about entering this step of my firearm collection. Advancing from strictly old wood guns.

If it's a one-piece, which it looks like, you'll need to remove the front sight post to install it. Which can be a real pain if you don't have a block for it.

As for the optics, I have a Millet DMS-1 scope inbound for testing, it was under $200. I'll let you know what I think after I get it installed.

The handguard you posted does require you to remove your front sight, barrel nut/delta ring assy, and then reinstall the barrel using the new barrel nut. It's not hard to do, but you do need some specific tools.
Check out the omega line by Daniel Defense... You don't have to make any modifications to the upper. They go in just like your handguards on the rear, and are even free floating. Only downside is that I don't believe they make them in an extended version like that.

Why not just get the Daniel Defense Omega Rail?

Daniel Defense, Inc | Browse | Omega Rail | Omega Rail™ 7.0 (Carbine)

You can get it elsewhere for cheaper like bravocompanyusa or someplace.
Same Free Float design but you dont have to cut off your delta ring so you can install it yourself without modifying your gun.
Also if you want to go eotech how about the new eotech xps?

Its the smallest one they make in regards to weight and rail space and it uses only 1 CR123 battery instead of 2 but gets the same battery life. Plus if you have any mounted or hand held tactical lights you get battery compatibility.

and at4rxj and I think alike again lol.

Ok excellent. Thanks for the suggestions.
I didn't know what exactly that 9.5" would require me to do, because they make it sound like it has room for the gas block and front sight and stuff, so it sounded easier than it does now.

jrswanson: please do let me know how that scope fares at the range or wherever.

at4rxj and TACAV: unless anyone else posts and changes my mind I will probably be heeding you guys' advice and going with the 7" omega. I seriously doubt I will even need the extra space, just liked the idea of it. Thanks for chiming in.
