Powder Storage
A friend and I went halves on an 8-pound jug of RG4895. I have my half in a plastic coffee can right now. Is this an acceptable way to store my powder?

It'll work, since it's opaque and not exposed to light. Just don't mistake it for your morning Folgers......
The larger white plastic non-dairy creamer bottle would be a better choice - tighter fitting cap and easier to pour from.

Good idea! I think I might have one around here somewhere.

Also, make sure you write the powder type on the outside of the container...

When we split a keg up we use these.
Oil Bottles with Caps | U.S. Plastic Corp. They are out of the black ones right now, but I suppose the white ones will work too. I have also used old (large) Tylenol bottles. What ever you use, make sure it has a good seal.

JTuck, like JimKim said, make as tight a seal as you can. I think if I was splitting a large keg and didn;t get the original container, I might be tempted to use a plastic coffee container. BUT!: I would put a film layer of cellophane press-and-seal over the top before putting the lid on...just to help a bit with air seal.

I like that RG4895. Good deal, and I just follow IMR 4895 recipes.

If I had any RG4895 empty containers I would send them to you. Maybe some other members on this good forum could help you out!

I would be grateful if anyone had an empty jug.
On a sidenote:
Has anyone used 4895 in .223 loads? My Hornady book has load data for it, but I was curious to see what kind of results people got.

I hang on to my old powder jugs just for occurances like yours. They've come in handy a number of times.
I have used both H-4895 and IMR4895 in the 223. They both work great with 60 - 63 grain bullets. I may have to give RG4895 a go as well. At the present I'm using Varget but if I can find an 8 lb keg of 4895 I will buy it.

When you go halves on the next jug, YOU keep the jug this time!
