Polychokes have been around for almost a century. A device with a twist
can change pattern from full to improved in seconds.
What a concept.
I have one on an old semi auto Rem that I shoot skeet regularly and have found that its not what its mark says it is. I am fully aware of how to set one up.
I find the polychoke must be tightened further to reach the setting I desire.
After finding the error, I made gauges for different choke sizes to reachdown the poly and determine the size of choke to adjust acordingly. .
So my questions. (Rem sportsman 48)
Should I back off the poly when storing to relax the collet design?
Can a poly over time loose its pattern?
The skeet barrel has been modded for the Poly. Is this it for the barrel or is there something else I can do?
This is a snide remark!(not really, enjoyed the question) You can cut the big knob off and have the barrel threaded for screwin chokes. If you want it longer I emagine bryley makes longer chokes.Personally,I think pollychokes are like a lot of things,if you like them use them.Since they are a collet,it seems that you would only have .001"choke so I emagine it would wear rather fast. The problem I had with the few I ever tried was when I mounted the gun,the target was hid behind the big knob. ,,,sam.
Hey there Sam---
Im keepin the big lug----It helps me aim better!!
I need all I can get to show-up my son--after all--It was I that got him in this game
of mine!!!
Can you believe--Hes shooting an 870 tactical and kikin my ass at skeet.
As always, you use what works for you.But is it really working?Years ago we often found that poly-chokes sometimes shot off center.Try bench resting your shotgun and see where the patern is really going.Set a target up and use sandbags or mechanical rest just like you would with a rifle.Use a small bulls eye. ,,,sam.
