Remington 700 ~ what does the the SDS or ADL mean?

I see a combo ready to shoot Remington with scope for $469 minus sale and mail in rebate. I am thinking of purchasing a Savage 111 FCNS or FHNS in the 30-06 caliber. What do you think is the best bet for me for most bang for the buck and good gun. I want the best gun for the money that will be most accurate and quality.

Thanks for your input.

well the weapon is only as accurate as the shooter behind the trigger and are they both 30-06?

The Remington 700 ADL has a blind magazine; that is, no magazine floor plate like the BDL, Classic, Mountain and some other sub-categories of the 700. Further, the checkering on the stock might be pressed instead of cut. Those are all just economy measures and have nothing to do with the actual receiver and barrel which is the same found on other 700s. I believe the Remington 700 ADL barrel came in 22" length only, but I might be wrong. For what it's worth, I had a 700 ADL in .30-06 and it was a tack driver, but I traded it for a 1926 manufactured Springfield Armory '03 sporter and $150.

savage? Rem 700? other?

Big 5 Sporting goods regularly puts Savage package guns (with scope), both in 30-06 and 7 Rem Mag on sale for $400. That a very good shooting gun and price. But you might consider a Marlin XL7 in 30-06 too. The word on the street is that they are also excellent shooters and you might even be able to beat that Savage deal. All that being said, the Rem 700 is a classic. I used a 700 ADL in 30-06 for 30+ years and it would shoot just at 1 MOA consistently. And yes, the ADL did have a 22" barrel. But it's more expensive. Go to their respective web pages and compare and contrast features and looks. Enjoy.

ADL was the base model. the BDL the next fancy grade. Now they have a CDL model. All the same basic action, just better stocks etc.

I have 700 ADLs in 06 and .270. I've been real happy with both. Both are tack drivers. But that Savage is a dandy rifle too. You're kinda in a win-win with those two. Pick the one that feels best, and appeals most to you.

personally I believe they are both fine rifles. of the two I would go with the savage only because I like their accu-trigger over the remingtons X-mark pro trigger. Savage can go down to 2# the Rem to 3# but I like the feel of the savage better. I own both setups.

the Marlin XL-7 is worth looking at. accuracy reports coming back to me at the store have been very impressive. also others reported on this site of excellent accuracy from these guns. the ones I sell do not come with scopes (combo scopes generally are crap anyway) but the XL-7 and XS-7 are being shipped with 1 piece Picatinny bases. triggers are also adjustable down to 2 1/2 #. our retail on the black synthetic guns is $299.00. I think they are worth looking into.

Thumbs up I've got both and...

you cant go wrong either way. I think the difference will be the stock. Is the 700 wood and the Savage composite? If so, I take the Savage

You'll never know the difference between either rifle, nor will any game you may intend to shoot with it. I would choose based on which one feels better in your hand maybe more importantly which scope looks better when viewing distances. Any glass you get in a package deal like that is going to be just fair in good weather and plenty of light. It's going to be an optical nightmare it gets below the dew point and/or when the light fades... at least for my 47 year old eyes anyway. I've found the younger you are the less money you need to spend on optics.

Smile Remington:)

Hydra Sports: Sir; another way of saying ???

The term ADL stands for standard model, it has an internal magazine to be feed from the top only. The stock is either black synthetic or wood with pressed checkering.

The BDL is the deluxe model with either a detachable magazine or a hinged floor plate. The stock is a cut checkering, walnut deluxe wood Monte Carlo with raised cheek piece.

I just checked the Remington website and there is no SDS but there is an SPS -

"The Model 700 SPS (Special Purpose Synthetic)"

Neo described the BDL pretty well.

My choice would be the 700 over the Savage.
