Well I may be a Okie but I ain't that dumb, I thunk. Anyhow I get to laughin my ass off watching some sellers on these online gun auctions.
They offer a 1943 Mosin 91/30 for example.Made at a very common factory, nothing about the gun is in any way rare. But according to this nut selling it, it is SUPER Rare. Lol, and his opening bid is 149 bucks.Well, I bet some smuck somewhere may buy the dam thing but nobody I know would. Another is a worn out, pitted, model 94 Winchester 30-30. Opening bid, 2000 ! Ad says its a rare Cowboy Gun used at a Famous Ranch.Lol.
Now unless he can prove the Mosin was Stalins and the Winchester was Jesse James, then I gotta pass. What say you-all?
I onced slickey-boy'd Tex on some 223 brass I had ordered online.
When I got it in the mail, I was madder'n a wet hornet !! I'd be danged if'n they was all LEFT handed brass !! Tex almost had me when he asked if'n it was left or right handed. I told him right handed, every last one of them !!
The trick was to box 'em up all with the mouths facing to the left !! I knew it'd trick him just fine. I sent him a pic and he bit for about 1/2 what I had into them. LUCKY me !!
Sorry Tex, but bizness be bizness, ROFLMAO !!

Its not just the seller. Some people believe that an old gun is worth something, which in reality most old guns are worth usually a little less than an equivalent new model.
I work with a gal that has an old Winchester 30-30 that she got in the 70's when she purchased a dodge truck. It books at about 300 bucks. A new 30-30 is about 350 maybe 400. She thinks its worth thousands because its a "limited run" I told her what it was worth, and she said well I will just sit on it and let the grand kids inherit it.

Well, I wouldn't know a rare gun if I was holding it, so wouldn't dare bid on one. Actually, I'm a little leary about buying on line anyway. My wife does it all the time & teases me for not wanting to. The one time I ordered a holster on line, they sent me the wrong one. It was their error, so I returned it with a note to tell them why. Their promise was that if their fault, they'd pay freight on the replacement. They tried to charge me freight! When we called about that, their billing dept. said they had not been told it was their fault & appologized. When I got the replacement, it was still wrong! In fact, I think it was literally the same one that I sent back! So, this time I called them. Found out that the part number & description on their web site was messed up & the item I wanted was not available. They did make it right by sending me a prepaid shipper & issued full credit, including the original freight charge. All I was out was the $4+ to send the first wrong shipment back. But, since then real edgy about buying on line. Have you folks had good luck buying on line?
On Gunbroker on a regular basis selling Mosin-Nagat's that he painted in some of the most garish colors you could imagine, and his starting price is always at least a couple hundred more than you can buy a "un-bubbaed" rifle for.
I even saw one once that some idiot had put ear rings on the sling swivels and had used a glue gun to attach fake stones on the stock, after of course the "custom paint package" was applied. People like that should never be allowed to do anything without adult supervision.
I've rarely been burned with online purchases, and never with anything firearms-related. At the moment I'm having a little bit of a problem with an eBay seller due to a shipment I paid for that has not arrived. The seller has said that he will dispatch a replacement on Friday and I should have it early next week. But that's the first online purchase I've made that there has been a problem with in three or four years.
I bought my Howa 308 online from Bud's and it was fine, gun arrived at my FFL in perfect condition and in a very timely manner. Just have to find and stick to a reputable (SP) dealer.
I guess buying on line from an established dealer with a good track record would be okay. I would think buying from an individual would be real risky. The sites do not take responibility do they? For example, I've visited a site: Texas Gun Trader where individuals list guns & equipment they have for sale or trade. It shows city of the seller & has a contact link. What protection do you have that when you send them the money, they ship the product? Anyone ever used one of these type sights?

Buds has really good prices to.

Only issue I've had buying online was a guy sold me a sears 200 12 g.I got a good price, I think ,but he said it was in excellent condition . Even came out of his private collection. When I got it , not in excellent condition . although it was in pretty good shape ,I was a little disappointed .Not excellent in my opinion ,but I guess he thought it was . The beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess ......LOL!

I bought a Delta Elite that had been "worked on" by a Novak's. I called the seller and we talked a couple of times, he sent me some more pictures, and we agreed on a price and return agreement if I wasn;t satisfied. I was satisfied that he was OK and I love the gun. The trigger is a little bit heavier than my Delta Gold Cup but I have to be really paying attention to notice. Most things I've bought online I use email for questions but I usually only spend $50 or less.

That's all right Steve. You're still my friend, but your wife should have told you that she hid your Christmas present money inside those "left handed" shells! She was sure going to be able to buy you something very nice with all that money!!! Found those bills rolled tightly and stuffed inside the brass when I went to reload them. With all that I should be able to buy my ladyfriend a very nice shotgun for Christmas!
Thanks Steve!!!!

There are 3 areas involed with on-line transactions.
(1) Buyer
(2) how shipped
(3) Seller
If the USPS is used don't hold your breath. Now 90% of the time the
item will arrive with in 4 to 5 days. eBay in piticular.
The other 10% will be weeks later or not at all.
Bought an item on eBay, should have taken a week at most. 4 weeks.
This was not the sellers fault, item showed item mailed when seller
said it was.
At one time the Post Office had a tracking # that would show every
stop the item made and when it moved on til it got to you. Of course
the cost of this service was $2 or $3.
