If PETA wants a robot mascot to replace that bulldog, may I suggest they nominate one of the 'bots from the Robot Fighting League? Vlad the Impaler is retired from competiton. He might like the odd weekend out attacking the coaches of the other teams.
... and the dog is being abused how ? PETA is staffed and supported by a bunch of idiots.
... recently there was an article about the 100's of thousands of animals slaughtered ... and I can see how that can be inhumane depending on how it is done, kinda like one of the last scenes in Apocalypse Now ... (I had to rush for the remote to turn it off) ... but come on. They're a bit over the top.

In the wake of the untimely death of the University of Georgia's (UGA) bulldog mascot, Uga VII, PETA has asked the school's athletic director, Damon M. Evans, to replace the mascot with an animatronic dog -- or to rely solely on a costumed mascot -- instead of using another real bulldog. Bulldogs are prone to breathing difficulties, hip dysplasia, heart disorders, and other congenital ailments, and acquiring a dog from a breeder perpetuates the animal overpopulation crisis while causing another dog waiting in an animal shelter to be condemned to death.
Well in that case maybe we should just stop letting bull dogs breed and let them go extinct since obviously their body structure in of itself is detrimental to their health. Why let them continue to breed with other dogs causing their off spring to suffer such terrible fates as being born and forced to live a life with bull dog traits/defects...

I think a person who abuses an animal should be horse whipped, but Uga's existence is pretty much the opposite of abuse. Poor critter probably got fed so many hotdogs that his heart couldn't take it. Bet he died with that bulldog grin on his face.
