I bought a Rossi Braztech single shot .223 about a month ago. When I was initially sighting the scope I had several not fires. I hate to call them misfires cause the primer was just scratched not dented. I blamed it on Wolf ammo which the steel cased ammo isn't very compatible with a single shot rifle because they stick. Managed to get the scope zeroed and was doing 1" group at 100yds which is close enough for me and my failing eyesight. LOL. My problem is that I repositioned the scope so I was going to check the zero on the scope again and it "not fires" with Remington ammo as well. I've been shooting for 40+ years and have NEVER had a Remington,Winchester,CCI and only one Federal round misfire.
My question after writing this book is:
Am I unfounded in giving up on the little Rossi(I ordered a Stevens 200)or is it just a freak thing that I got one that won't shoot.I have a fear of a firearm that snaps instilled in me from long ago. Has anyone else had a problem with these little rifles. If so please let me know because I have lots of friends buying their kids and grandkids the youth models and I'd hate for little kids to have the bad experience I did.

Different gun but similar problems....

I have a Stevens 311a shotgun. One barrel doesn't like the federal shells. The same shell in the other barrel fires fine. I took it to a gun smith and the firing pin protrusion was less on one side, he reamed the hole. I took it back to the range and the mis-fires were less, but they still happened.

The guy who runs the range told me that the federal primers were harder than others. so I quit buying federal shot shells. Everything else fired fine. Estate, winchester and remington...

Try other ammo, maybe that will help.

Not a gunsmith but I know people with those little Rossis and they are happy with them. My advice would be to contact Rossi customer service and see what they have to say. Those little guns are not the most refined but seem to be great little shooters.

no 'smith here either but that seems like a firing pin issue there. since it works sometimes and not others um, maybe the hole is weird or the spring is off center or something. i (not being a 'smith) would just send it back to them for repairs if you can.

that sucks about your rifle tho. those things should go bang every time. ain't that supposed to be the benefit of the simple single shot? less things goin on so less chance of a malfunction?

I agree with Tex. A buddy has the Rossi package gun with 20 gauge and .17HMR barrels - he loves the little gun.
Rossi should make it right.

You have a weak hammer spring or obstruction in the firing pin area.Any gunsmith can fix it easily. sam.
