Help Identifying Rifle

My uncle bought this gun and we're trying to figure out what it is. There's very little info to go on. It does say waffenfabrik and BERN and M.78

Also, it appears to be rimfire, and about 40 or 45 caliber.

That is a Swiss 1878 "Vetterli" rifle and is either a .41 Rimfire or a 10.4 mm !

Thanks guys. That was really helpful. $25 wasn't too bad I don't think.

it was once the cutting edge in military rifles, but not for long...... many were imported to the u.s. , and they were used in shooting clubs here alot.... over 100 years ago....... we had one in our family...... my cousin still has it..... it shoots a great big fat rimfire.... ballistics must have been atrocious, but wouldn't want to get hit by one, even at long range......
