So i replaced my barrel today with the SS barrel and everything went fairly smooth. I got the gun back together and since it is my carry gun i usually keep it chambered. Well i was running a few rounds through it by hand (to check for smooth loading and what not) and on the 4th round, the slide jammed on something. It is no locked in the loaded, slide closed position with a round chambered and I can not for the life of me seem to get it open.
i am bit concerned, obviously, as this poses a significant danger. I do not want to try and force anything too much as i do not want to risk an accidental discharge, nor do i want to take it to the range and pull the trigger in fear that it will either, not release the slide, or backfire on me.
anyone ever have this problem? i cant seem to figure this out.
also, my guess would be that one of the retaining pins slipped out or is not aligned properly and is snagging on the slide somewhere. anyone know how to get this open?
I'm guessing it's the barrel pin. I also installed the SS barrel. But I have no idea how to open it. Hopefully someone will chime in.
I'd probably fire it just to alleviate the danger. I shoot into a box of kitty litter in the shop. Maybe a couple raps on it's side with a rubber mallet. Hit one side, try to open, then the other. I'm thinking it may put the barrel pin back into position enough to disassemble...?
FIGURED IT OUT! was that stupid Brown Bear ammo... it was totally jammed in the chamber. upon getting it removed, i noticed that the edges of the casing were flaired out a tad and the top of the case was expanded slightly from the slug... I suspect this wasnt a problem in my old worn barrel... the other ammo that i clicked through it was brass cased and was fine...
Just a heads up now to new barrel owners that shoot brown bear ammo... and the thing that sucks is that I just got done placing an order for a case of the brown bear stuff. DAMNIT!
FWIW; I have an AP-MBP. which is the 32acp version of the PA-63. I had the exact same issue with Corbon ammunition. The bullet was too much of a straight wall, and as the round fed into the barrel, it would catch on the grooves. Federal, Fiocchi, Lawman, etc... all works fine. But corbon will not fit properly. You might try silver-bear Hollow Points. The bullet is more tapered and fits much easier. You can also try the silver-bear fmj. It's not as straightwalled. Both feed in all of my 9x18 makarov. My pa-63, p64, and cz-82. good luck
P.S. If you buy your ammo locally; simply take the slide off; leave that at home (Unless you have a ccw permit or are comfortable bringing a gun into a store.... They don't normally want you putting ammo in a gun). But if you have just the bottom half, you can try bullets out of a box and drop it in the barrel to see if it goes in all the way or if the bullet gets snagged on the rifling. That is the problem with the pa-63. They take the rifling all the way back almost to the end of the barrel. Some ammo is too straight walled and the bullet snags the rifling.

i found this on another fourm ...not sure how applicable it is but...."I discovered a story about the "sporting grips" on this site. According to the author the new grips that are installed on the FEG's that ship to us are a little to high on the right side causing an interference with the slide, well I took a look at mine, and sure enough they were. I removed about a 1/16" of material on the top of the grip, and I believe that this was the fix. I experimented with the grips prior to the removal of any material, and I could actually stop the slide by applying pressure up on the grip"

Thanks for the info. i have actually put about 1200 rounds through this gun with nearly no issues until the new barrel swap. I found that any of the lower grade ammo that has slight bulges in the steel casings get stuck. its not the bullet in the rifling. I checked that. It is definitely the bulged rounds. My suspicion is that it wasnt an issue before with the old barrel as the chamber was worn just enough to allow free movement of the round during eject. I think with the new SS barrel, the tolerances are tigher and a bit more picky.
I tried this with several different manufacturers and found that only the cheaper stuff with the bulges got stuck a little... a brisk tug on the slide and it will open up.

oh ok cool... has anyone heard about the magazines on these damaging th ebullet casing.. therefore causing problems with escaping gas?
