I think it's because anyone claiming that is automatically given the obsessed lunatic label. I believe there is such a thing, but it's mostly experimental crafts built by our military. Most anyway. I think there's a very real possibility that's there are other sentient creatures out there. Oh, another thing that's very possible is that when there were so many sightings, the experiments weren't as sophisticated as they are now. Technology advanced and became more reliable and thus the accidental sightings don't occur as much.
