This is amazing! I won't spoil it, but it's not what you would expect to happen. It just shows that not all hunters are bloodthirsty villains as they would like to portray them as.

That was a great shot, not so easy either as most rifles are sighted in for 1 1/2" high @100 yards so close range is high also, that feller knows his rifle ans I will bet that buck missin the antler has one hell of a headache.....
Close range,(such as shown) would be low if sighted in for long range. ,,,sam.
yes. A bullet crosses the line of sight somewhere in the neighborhood of 25-35 yds out, if sighted in at a couple inches high at 100. So less than 25 yds out it would hit low, 25 yds = dead on, past 25 yds out, and until the bullet drops below line of sight again (out at 200 yds or wherever it's sighted in at), it would hit high. In the video the shooter looked to be about 10 yards away so it was still low. My guess is that at 10 yds it would be about 3/4" low. Therefore when shooting at a vertical part of the antler there is some room for error. Good shot offhand though.
blueice . . . did you watch the whole video? You did see that he shot the antler to untangle the deer so they wouldn't starve?
or watch the 2nd video in that thread. A day later and two deer still tangled. One dead and the other partially eaten alive by coyotes.
I don't have answers to all the dilemmas and certainly am not a fan of the Disney school of wildlife management where prey are never caught but I wouldn't cast aspersions on the shooter in this video.
Many, many years ago, my dad was quail hunting in western OK and found the carcasses of two very large bucks. They had locked together like that, and we were certain that they'd died horrible deaths. Both had huge racks of antlers, very impressive, but they were locked so tight you couldn't even wiggle them. One of them had an antler prong through an eye socket.
They were long dead and had already been torn up by coyotes, so dad took both heads home and cut out just the skullcaps with a Skilsaw. We had those two locked sets of antlers around the house for years and years. Dad's gone now, but one of my brothers still has the antlers.
So, I'm on the side of doing the humane thing like the guy in the video did, and let them both live. Like he said, "they don't deserve to die like that". The second video of the dead buck and the live one that had been chewed on kinda says it all.
