I was surprised the other day while visiting the local gun shop to see Blazer .45 automatic ammo made of aircraft grade aluminum alloy. The blurb on the side of the box says "For shooters who don't reload their ammo. Blazer uses a non-reloadable case made from high-strength, aircraft grade aluminum alloy. Cases are coated for smooth function and corrosion resistance. Blazer is primed with non-corrosive, non-mercuric CCI primers for clean,reliable ignition." This is .45 auto, 230 grain, FMJ. My questions: does anybody have any experience with this ammo, especially the aluminum casing? Is it safe to put through my Kimber?

I have fired similar ammo in the past and had no problems with it in my CZ75 & Colt1911.
Cheap & nasty but fired OK.

... it's a cheap alternative to 'regular' brass. I've found it to function well, just real dirty.

CCI has made the Aluminum case ammo for awhile,they also now make Blazer Brass that about the same price and reloadable. Don't shoot a 45 but the 115 FMJ shot good out of my 9mm back in the old days before I started reloading the 9mm.

I was suprised to find out expermienting around one day that the mild steel case Russian ammo out shot both brands of CCI Blazer ammo.

I have shot the aluminum-cased Blaser in .45ACP and in 9mm Largo - both shot fine, with decent if not excellent accuracy.

But I really prefer reloadable cases nowadays.......

I dont like that aluminum crap its real dirty and it produced the only fte/ftf in my Colt 1911 repeatedly.

Cycles fine in my Springer, but I agree it's dirty stuff.

Shot a fair amount through my 1911a1 and in 9mm through my glock. No probs what so ever.

Used to shoot it alot in .45 and 9mm before I started reloading. I have to say in a couple of my guns it's very accurate.

I bought abunch of Blazer .44 mag 200gr JHP's on clearance years ago for about 12.00 per box and I still have a few boxes hanging around. I have found it to be very good shooting thru the SBH with a 7 1/2" barrel and had no problems hitting an 18" ish target 200 yards away. One thing about it if I am going to be down by the river shooting in tall grass I would just rather shoot non-reloadable vs seeing my brass go bye bye, of course that is more with the auto's than wheel guns. So I say non-reloadable does have its place and as far as Blazer goes I would rather shoot it than many of the other non-reloadables.

I've shot Blazer Aluminum in .45 and .40 as well. They function fine as target/range ammo but I only buy it when there is nothing else available. This is mostly because I like to reload not because of lack of quality of the ammo. I really like Blazer Brass. Good, quality, low cost range ammo.

It is irritating though, seeing all those dull silvery cases littering the range floor and knowing they are USELESS! "DOH!"
