A question about which buckshot to use.

My question is which size of buckshot do you guys use in your HD Shotguns ? I am wondering if I should switch to #4 buckshot since 00 buckshot will cause overpenetration and don't want to hit the neighboors. I like the 41 pellets you can get with a remington 3 in magnum #4 buck, I bought ten rounds yesterday and now I am just wondering if it is still a good round for home defense.

You know heavy duty Turkey loads would work good though I use 00 Buck.

They will work....but they will penetrate walls almost as bad as 00B. ALL 12G loads, even lite #8 skeet loads, will shoot through sheetrock.

I just use 00B and keep slugs handy too.

#4b was effective man stopper out to 30yds in the service. They worked better in brush. In the open I would prefer 00 or even 000.But I still believe #6 birdshot would do nicely inside a house.Personal observations and opinion. ,,,sam.

Well,

I load my 870 with alternating 00 buckshot and slugs.

I feel anyone wishing to invade my home may very well be on drugs as well as having the potential for body armor.

I am not worried about overpenetration. I want put down power and I mean power.

00 is what is most prevalent in military shotguns so that's what I use. You can get some 8 pellet low recoil versions that are very nice.

As far as penetration....a 410 bore with bird shot will go through sheetrock and keep going. A friend of my brother's accidentally shot a hole through the outside wall of his apartment (siding, no brick) with a 3" 410 shell with birdshot.

Point is....worry about putting the perp to sleep, be sure of your target and what is behind it. Use buckshot #4 or greater.

Projectiles leave a .410 barrel at the same speed as a 10/12 ga depending on the weight/powder charge. ,,,sam.
