British M-58 Web Gear ????

I recieved a set of British M-58 e instructions on how to assemble it web gear ($16) all happy it holds 4 ak mags per pouch...just can not figure out what in the heck the quick release and pin on the back of the harness and also on the pack is designed to hold anyone have any idear??? The instructions on how to assemble the gear did not mention it....photos from every surpluss store show the flaps folded and in place but nothing connected.
