It's a last-ditch weapon meant for a SHTF scenario.

You'd be quite a bit better off with a Marlin model 70 Papoose.

I have one of the pistol versions. it rates as one of the worst gun buys I have made and I only paid $60. for it n.i.b. totally un reliable and if its the least bit dirty, it goes full auto until it jams again

I have owned three of them (all made by Henry) for the last 10 years. If you clean them, they function properly. I have never had one fail to fire or go "full auto" as claimed by previous poster.

They are Survival Rifles. They are meant to be used in an EMERGENCY situation. They are NOT range plinkers or hunting rifles that you would use on a regular basis. They are better than NO GUN at all, if you get into a survival situation, but just barely.

The design is for compact storage, NOT ergonomic use. It is difficult to get a proper cheek weld/sight alignment with the AR7. When you do manage to get a good alignment, you get a decent close range (inside 50 yards) accuracy.

I have them in each of our vehicles, as a last resort backup for an EMERGENCY situation that calls for taking small critters for food.

If you want a .22 rifle for all other purposes, there are MANY better choices.

I have an Henry AR-7 that lives in my Grab & Go bag. The only complaint I have about it is that it won't reliably chamber hollowpoints. As I prefer 40 grain solids anyway, this hasn't been a problem for me.

Eugene Stoner designed the AR-7 to be used by shot down aircrews to obtain food while evading capture, in the days when if you were shot down you had to walk out until and unless you managed to like up with a Resistance, if there was one. It's meant to take a beating and get dirty and still work. It's not meant to be used as a sniper rifle, Hollywood's use of it as such in the James Bond movies notwithstanding. It's not pretty. It doesn't have to be. What it is, is a tough little rifle that will work under almost any conditions. That's what Stoner designed it to do, and it does it very well.
