Black Bear Ammo for 30.06

What is, or would be your choice in 30.06. I have been kicking around trading my 30.06 in on a 300 Mag but I want to give it a chance first. Im thinking maybe a 175-200 grain Nosler Partition maybe.
So do any of you have a pet hand load, or a pet factory load?
Thanks

Black bears are not hard to kill, your 30-06 will do just fine and virtually any 150 to 180 gr. bullet will do the job.

180gr Core-Lokt will do the job just fine, from what I hear.

180 core-lokt or 180 Nosler Partition ammo is deadly on Black Bears...and other critters too.

I agree. I would tend to lean toward heavier weights though.

I agree with Mooseman. I've had success with Nosler Partition and Hornady's 180 grain Interbond. Any good premium bullet will work and .30-06 is an excellent choice (slight bias from me!). Shot placement still remains king.

I have shot 2 bears with my 25-06 using the 100 gr swift sirocco bullets so I think your 30-06 with 150's or 180's will be potent bear medicine!

Why change guns? I have three rugs taken with Rem 165 gr. SHot placement...shot placement. I also have three with 100 grain broadheads from a bow. Don't need a monster gun for blackies .

3006 ammo

Hey!
i am from Norway. I have tried us ammo and Norma ammo. I have to say, that i have hunted for 30 years, and have a lot of experience. Norma bullets is far better than enyone els in the whole world, that includes big games in africa. All the PH`s i`v spooken to are of the same opinion!

I've taken around 8 black bear with my 30-06 using both factory and handloads. I prefer Nosler 200gr Partition (max loads per Nosler) and I recently switched to Sierra 220gr RN (max loads per Sierra).

I switched to handloads after having a factory Nosler 180gr Partition hit a bear broadside at 35 yards and for some reason the bullet turned 90 degrees and I found it lodged under the neck. (Those of you who use Partitions know the front half peels off quickly providing lots of damage while the back half continues to plow through...the back half is what I found in the neck) I called Nosler and complained, the guy got awful quiet on the other end and said , "Yaa..we had a few guys give similar reports from the field."

I agree you can kill bear with smaller bullets but I like to swat them hard.

Here's a link to my 2006 bear and the Sierra 220gr RN. The video's were banned from Youtube after being on there a year plus. They show blood so I guess that's why they got banned?

its all about shot placement

bears are not tough if you double lung them. HOWEVER, IF YOU SHOOT A BEAR IN THE SHOULDER YOU ARE SCREWED! I SAW A TROPHY BONDED BEAR CLAW 308 BOUNCE OFF.

We got some pretty scarry video of the recovery... We were almost lunch

180 grain bullet----Remington Corelok----will get into the Bear and open up. Really it comes down to what you are comfortable shooting. Rem. 6m 105 grain mollycoat will take them out clean, but shot placement is important no matter what you shoot. Good luck with the bear I hope you have steaks and a nice rug to show for your efforts.

It actually "bounced off". I wouldn't want that to happen. How far did it "bounce" ?
