I personally wouldn't pay that much, but that is the average price right now for an excellent condition Russian. There are parts of the country that have a lower price, but most of us have to pay that much. I would buy an AK-47 variant with that $500, but that's just me and my style. The Russians are the best and as far as worth goes, I'd pay $500 for that SKS sooner than I'd pay $500 for some firearms that go for more than that.
If you have the cash and want it, get it. If you think you'll find one in better condition or one in better condition and cheaper, then buy it. If you think you'll find one just cheaper, then wait.

Go to Guns - Online Gun Auction - Guns at GunBroker.com. Do you know what to look for when considering to buy an SKS? Do the numbers need to match or not? What year of production? Good luck and have fun.
Sounds like the going rate around here in WA too for a Russian SKS. Good points brought in previous posts. If you think this is the best you can get, then it sounds like its worth it if it doesn't have any arsenal refurb stamps. I don't know much about SKS marks, but if they are anything like the Mosin Nagant rifles, then keep an eye out for refurb stamps.

I wish I can get an AK47 but unfortunately I live in Connecticut which it is illegal to own an AK47 in 7.62x54 But you can get a AK74 in 5.45 in full auto no problem , I already own a AR upper in 5.45 and just would like that evil 7.62 round so the SKS is it. I think I need to move to a more free state

If you own an AK in 7.62x54R, you don't have an AK-47; you have an SVD. The AK-47 is chambered in 7.62x39 ComBloc. Are SVDs or PSLs legal in Connecticut?
OOOOPPPPPS !!! was thinking Russian and the first thing that popped into my head was my Mosin Nagant for some reason, lol. I meant 7.62x39 AK is not allowed in Conn. I think the SVDs or PSLs are allowed but not 100% sure.

Good reason. Felony charges are never fun. I think you should move! Not being allowed to have the goods is evil!
