Thumbs up Sp101

Today was a very good day. Decided to pick up a Ruger SP101 to replace one I sold several years ago during a bad, almost terminal, case of CZ-itis. This one has the 3 1/16" barrel where my previous one had the 2 1/4" barrel. Won't be able to get to the range until Friday afternoon, but I plan on several hours of shooting.

What started this was a shooting buddy brought one to the range a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't put it down. Accurate too: much more so than the 2 1/4" one I had before. Hope this new one does as well.

I've always wanted to get one of those myself, just haven't gotten around to it yet. Hope you enjoy it!

The SP-101 is truly an awesome revolver. In the .357 mag. model, I have shot 2 1/2" groups at 25 yds. with 125gr. Federal without feeling like my hands and arms are taking a beating. 110gr Federal is just as accurate and even more pleasant to shoot since it is a milder load. Two things you may want to consider if you plan on carrying your SP-101 is a carry melt and an action job. SP-101's are rugged, durable, and accurate... they are not however slicked up internally nor externally. I can reccomend two gunsmiths that can do the previously mentioned work(s) very reasonably: Karl Sokol of Chestnut Mt. Sports (802) 438-5732, and Don Williams of the Action Works/Pick-a-Grip (928) 636-1691. Don is a GunandGame.com Guest Moderator. Karl has worked on at least two SP-101's for me and his work is fabulous. He performed a carry melt, action job, trigger polish, cylinder chamfer, bead blast, and installed an Ashley Tritium front sight. Don has a package he offers for the SP-101, and his work is also fabulous.

Safe shooting!

Excellent gun. I cannot say enough for them. I know several fellow officers who carry them as an off duty weapon. Good purchase as you already know!

Pictures, Jesse! We need pictures! I'd love to see the SP101 you described. Sounds really nice.

Speaking of SP101's, I saw on Lipsey's website they had 9mm SP's for sale. Thinking that their website must be outdated, or maybe they bought a truckload of the last ones, I sent them a message. A very nice sales woman called me the next day and assured me that they do still receive them from Ruger, apparently a Lipsey's-only product. Anyway, she said they were presently sold out, but had more on order and would call me when they arrive.

Talk about customer service!
