Well today my hunting partner and I went out to do a little calling for the day. We went to the first spot with no luck. So we start our way to the second spot.It is an old farm by the ocean. So on our way there we were noticing the damage that was caused by the weekends storm. We had winds that hit 130kmh and a big storm surge to go with it.It destroyed a lot of the beaches around here. So on our way down the road that the farm is on we came across a spot where the storm surge wash across the road and left behind some debris and what we though at the time was a dead seal, as it was laying on its back and not moving. So we decide to go back and move the seal dead seal off the road and into the ditch. My hunting partner wants to come back later with the truck and pick it up for bait. He really wants to try baiting the yotes as this is the first year he has hunted them. I am not so much into the baiting thing, but if he wants to try it I will give him a hand with this seal. So I get outta the car and proceeded to grab the seal by the back flippers so that I could move it off the road. Then it turned and and tried to bark and snap at me. Needless to say it wasn't in great shape and could barely move. It still surprised me when it moved.I thought it was dead. So then my hunting partner was trying to convince me to kill it.There is just something about an animal that is as helpless as that seal was that makes me take pity on them. So after I talked my hunting partner outta putting a bullet in its head just because. I moved the seal to a small salt marsh just off the side of the road so it could maybe regain some of it strength and recover. The ocean is only 100yrds or so from the marsh. The last I seen of it, it was kinda swimming slowly and just floating around saving its strength.
Maybe it will recover, maybe not.
That's my hunting story of the day.
That must have been one tired seal! And a great story! Keep an eye on that seal and let us know how it turns out!
Yea i would say. It must have got beaten around some bad in the storm to end up in the middle of a road 100+ yards from the beach.
I have to start carrying around my camera with me.
Could have had a pic of me dressed in full camo with my rifle and a seal in tow.
Cape Breton Nova Scotia. Actually I will show you on google maps.
Here is the link and description of the area b4 people think I stranded it in a field.LOL.
I might check on it tomorrow and see if I can get a pic or 2.
Been nice if you could of took it home or atleast found a rehabber to take it in.
I do thank you for what you did, which was allowing to let the Lil feller have another chance at life.
As sportsman I feel were another arm of nature by harvesting game and it should be our duty as responsible sportsman to help nature take care of all the wildlife by lending a helping hand when they need it.
Thanks for not shooting the seal and moveing it...A.H

only people I would be able to call here would be DNR ( department of natural resources ) and being that there are so many seals in this area, there solution to the problem would have been a bullet in the head. From there it would have just went to the wildlife park to feed the animals there.
