Old .22 ?'s

Dad has a 22 rifle that says the following on the side.

O.F MOSSBERG & SONS INC.
NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.
51 M(@)22 L.R ONLY PAT PEND.

About how old is this gun, I can not find a serial number. It loads through the stock.Plastic trigger guard, it has 4front site options and the rear site is adjustible i 2 different directions. It is in fair shape but for the 25$ he paid it is nice i am thinking of fixing it up and offering him his money back.

THANKS FOR ANY INFO YOU HAVE.

I have the Model 51...The 51 M was made from 1939-1946...Value is from 100 to 250 depending on ORIGINAL condition...
