Question: 995 TS changeover to ATI

I have heard that the ATI stock will not fit the latter 995TS series. Some kind of new style bolt hold open feature.
True or False?

If true, can it be made to fit?

I ask because after I bought mine from TravisG, 2 guys at work now want one, and we have located an online gunstore that has 63 of the NEW 995TS's in stock for $214.99!!!!!

ATI Stock

Oh boy, here it comes (I'm donning my asbestos suit).

I just spoke with THE expert at Hi-Point in Ohio regarding stocks ... by happy accident. I called to order a set of the metal sights because the carbine I bought from an individual had no metal sights, just a broken BSA red dot. I told the person (Stephanie, very nice lady) who answered the tech line that the carbine I bought had an ATI stock on it. I was connected to the tech expert immediately. My problem was greater than missing metal sights!

The ATI stock does not properly support the inner mechanism of the Hi-Point carbines! The expert recommended I go back to the factory stock, or order an upgrade tactical made by Hi-Point for their weapon. I shoot two or more hundred rounds almost every weekend, so this is going to be important stuff, folks.

Well, the expert explained the problem and it sent me to take apart the ATI stock and remove the innards. What I found when I got the thing apart is now understandable ... simple plastic retainer and plastic barrel support is not strong enough under firing conditions which heat the barrel! The action will become lose enough that the recoil will damage the receiver/action as the heated barrel works its way loose from the insufficient stock supports. No, the supports are not the nylon strengthened plastics, they are simple snapable/breakable black plastic like you would see in an airsoft wannabe!

The problem is becoming so obvious that Hi-Point is about to restrict their warranty work to guns that have not had after-market accessories applied. The good news is, I had not heated up the barrel enough with two mags only so far, to loosen the plastic supports so the action is not cracked. The other good news is, you can put the weapon back into a factory stock (like the after-market TS tactical or the original ugly beauty) and avoid the loss of warranty.

This is STILL the best carbine manufacturer on the market in the price range most of us need. I'm about to dremel the ATI stock, to put a Marlin 795 in it, so the thing won't go to waste. But man, I sure liked the look and feel of that ATI stock. Too bad it is not well engineered. HOWEVER, I also bought a new TS 995, so soon I will have ugly sister and her sleek younger sister. Now to get tactical red dots on them both and load up with HiShok hollow points ...

If this info is any use to you, ask me about the velcro idea I came up with for home defense weaponry where there are children in the home.

Hope you post the marlin photo with the ATI stock when your done.

I'm having a hard time picturing it working.

Ugly beauty? How about Ugly Stick. Glad mine is a TS.

All the best.

I took the ugly duckling out of the ATI stock and put it in the factory 'Planet of the Apes' stock. Shot the thing today and am VERY impressed with the maneuverability of the lighter stock! The metal sights are easy to target with.

May I suggest that if you use an ATI stock for the 995 action and barrel, do the bedding work to give the barrel support all the way to the end of the stock. You might even mount a picatinny rail with nuyts and bolts and embed the bolts in the bedding compound, for future durability. To put the MArlin action int he ATI stock will require dremel and bedding work. But I'm leaving the action in the ugly early fashion because I kind of like the strange look of it. I have put a butt wrap and dual mag pocket accessory on it and it makes it a bit less 'other worldly'.

I have a brand new 995TS I have yet to shoot. Gonna just leave it alone for a few months and play with the revert. I think a rail system on the bottom of the stock is going to be a lot easier with the old style stock. Flashlight slung underneath makes a goods home defense tactical option. Don't know if a laser would stay at zero being hung fromt he plastic not the barrel. Might put a rail on and see what happens. Incidentally, I had two 15 round ProMag mags which I dremeled on the plastic and dremeled downt he feed lips and put a hole int he side to match the newer factory mags that work great in the revert! Fed it 85 rounds today with nary a glitch.

If you want the futuristic look, buy a Beretta CX4 Storm. The High point is not the same gun as the Beretta, and I know from experiance because I own both. I had planned to buy a 995 2 years ago, but ended up passing on the deal. I had already picked up the stock, and it sat until recently. My Beretta carbines are great and actually are a useful home defense firearm for weaker shooters. Anyway, when I did end up buying the 995, I found the ATI stock to require much fitting to get right, and once done the stock felt so cheap compared to the ugly original. I ended up putting it back like it came, and realize it is good for plinking. The biggest problem with the 995 is the mag capacity... but that is for another thread.

Wish I had the $700 for the Beretta CX4 but the reason I bought the Hi-point was the $200 price tag. I would not have bought the Ugly stick 995 if that was the only stock option. I jumped on the 995TS when it came out and couldn't be happier. I like the looks of the TS so much better.

Do you happen tyo know the weight differences between the 995 in the ATI stock, and the Beretta Storm? After removing the ATI stock, I am amazed at how heavy it is compared to the original 995. Also, what is the highest cap mag for the Storm?

My 995 is no longer in the stock to see how heavy it is. I will get the scale out and see about the CX4 tomorrow, but I have the storm in .40 S&W caliber. It takes the Beretta 96 mags, and I have high capacity mags for this that are 20 rounds. The norm in restricted states is 10 rounds, and 11 in less restrictive states. You can find mags with much more than this number. The 9mm version, if you get the type that takes the Beretta 92 mags, can support 32 rounds. My Beretta CX4 Storm with 20 rounds +1 is not heavy at all. On my home defence setup, I have added a tac light with the pressure switch, along with a vertical grip for my weak hand.
