I got to hold a Barrett .50 cal Rifle today!

So my dad and I had gone to Gander Mountain yesterday to look at the gun selection. They had a decent selection there and it just spiked my already big thirst for guns even more.

So I want to go to a place near us called New Freedom Armory. Never been there before.

But they sell new and used guns and they have a range as well.

I was looking around at the semi auto pistols and revolvers and spotted some nice rifles up above and then I layed my eyes on something. It looked out of place to me and I could barely read the tag but I saw .50 cal. I knew it was a Barrett or a variant of one.

Well it was a Barrett. I had the guy lift it down and it was shorter then some I do believe. However what amazed me the most was the weight. These things are so heavy. I don't know the weight of it. But to me it felt a good 20-40 pounds worth of weight. However it felt amazing to be able to hold one, even if I'll never be able to buy one.

I've gotten a chance to fire the M107... I had to lay there a bit before I was able to stand up without embarrassment! lol

Here's a great pic of my little man with an Armalite AR-50... I told the wife that as soon as he can lift it, I'm getting one for him!

That's cheap compared to the Barrett which had no scope or anything on it. I was holding an $8000 some odd dollar rifle!

I don't need a picture to remember today. Just the mere fact it happened is keeping a smile on my face.

Just wait until you shoot one! You'll want a cigarette afterwards.

I fired one once and I am not in a hurry to do it again.

50 Cal.

I wish I had a Barrett. I wanted one but settled on a LAR Big Boar. It was stil $2000. I have fired it about 10 times and my son still has the scar across his nose from the scope. I told him to lean into it. It is a lot of fun to shoot, but you don't want to do it a lot.

What, no muzzle brake on it? They're brutal without a brake, but with one it's about like a bolt-action .30-06, IMO. The one I fired was an AR-50. I hadn't fired a rifle in 30+ years, and had never really done any target shooting with big centerfires, and I was hitting an 18"x18" steel plate at 600 yards with it. I was amazed!

Well,

it is a lot of gun anyway you look at it. Naturally, that cartridge demands weight due to the recoil factor.

Glad you had a good time.
