If you were going to have a firearm refinished, which one of these two finishes would you choose?
DuraCoat or CeraKote.
Please, only reply if you have taken the time to read up on both finishes or if you've had a firearm or firearms, revolver, semi-auto, shotgun or rifle finished or refinished in either one or both...
Here's the links to each finishes facts, that has information on both finishes. So if you have no knowledge or experience with either, and would like to make an informed decision or opinion, to help a fellow member out, please do so.
Why am I doing the poll and asking for your opinions? Because I am in need of getting the slide on a semi-auto refinished. Right now I'm only looking at only the slide and a few small parts ie. hammer, trigger (maybe? It's stainless now but would like the whole thing in the end to be more stealth, dark, non reflective)...
I'm also only looking at one color. If I go with the CeraKote finish I'm looking at Graphite Black and if I go with DuraCoat it'll probably be Matte or Combat Black?.?.? Colors can also be found and seen at the above links.
There are man other places on the WWW to get information on both. I just picked one. If you'd like more or didn't understand the info provided at the link/s I provided, please, take the time and search both finishes so you can still make and give and informed honest opinion.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE!!!

They use a process called cerahide, and ceraplating for black and silver finishes. They also have a cerahouse which is a matte black finish.
Its not the same thing as cerakote and its supposed to be better. Its run bya smaller family owned company that has been doing it for a long time now.
From reading several different reviews from different gun forums I have yet to see a negative review on how their finish comes out. The only complaint people have is that sometimes it takes a few weeks longer than expected for the work to get done. As its a small family owned business they dont have a lot of people to do the finishes (I think its just one or two guys, and one guy's wife is the customer service department) but the plus is they take their time doing it right and their quality control is supposed to be superb.
I am planning on sending some of my guns off to them as well. They can also do refinishing on mags and internals as well to get those offset two tone looks.
I vote for Dura Coat only because I have used it to re-finish about 25 guns belonging to me and friends. it is pretty easy to apply and lasts pretty good. heres a pic of a few that I did.

Was probably just going to send it out. I don't have anything I'd need to apply it and by the time I got any of it, one, Id of probably spent more then if I were to send it out (for just the parts mentioned). Plus, this is the only one I need to have done and anything bought, and any finish left, would just sit.
Plus, the old finish has to be removed and I don't have anything to do that with so if I did this myself I'd still have to send it out for that and that would only add to the cost whereas just sending it to someone to do that'll be part of the price. In looking/guessing, I can get the slide, hammer and other small parts I'm looking at having done, for about $125???
And TACAV, thanks for the info on CCR. Never heard or seen anything on it. Have to research it and consider it...

First off, after time, all finishes will wear off. And from what I have neard and understand, with duracoat, you can undercoat it by parkerizing it and it makes it that much more durable and longer lasting.
And in all honesty, I wish I knew someone or could talk to someone that had their firearm DuraCoated say like 5 years ago and ask if they're glad they did it and see what it looks like today. Unfortunately, I know of no one.
On another note, I found this picture at another website that does CeraKote and I found them through an auction on gunbroker.com.
And yes I know, photos can be altered and or doctored so take it for what it's worth. But if it's unaltered and true, I'm leaning that much more towards CeraKote.
i asked a guy on here if it was ok to get a slide done with dura coat and he said it would wear off?
I replied to your post in my post #8 but I also wanted to say this. The original finish I'm looking to have redone hasn't lasted either. Bought the gun new and have only had it for like 3 years. And doing nothing isn't going to make things any better either...
Might I ask who this member here is that you aksed? And if they feel this way how come they couldn't and or didn't post that themselves? Sure, maybe they didn't see the post. Maybe PM them the link and tell them since they seem to have knowledge of the stuff that maybe they might want to help another member out???
Not trying to start anything. Just curious to know. You can PM me the name if you want to keep it private. But for me to take them seriously, I mean, to say something but not have your name associated with what was said, well, I think you know where I'm coming from.
