M-44 Bayonet Lug - Part 2

Well, I decided to see what I could do to further reduce the sharp corners that snag my gun case or my hand. A little patience with a coarse and fine wheel on my bench grinder resulted in a reasonably smooth round collar in place of the clunky bayonet mount. Next will be a little hand polishing and some cold blueing and I'll call it good enough for a $32 rifle to throw in the back when I go to the country...

Looks good to me.

If anyone asks what that "cylinder" is on the barrel, just tell them it is a bore evacuator, designed by Stalin for firing from within an armored vehicle...

I like that James. Maybe I should drill some ports around it!

Have you guys seen the new stuff on Steve Wagner's web site? He has done some really cool stuff with an M44. I like his solution to bayonet removal. I may hafta get me another one so's I can try some of his modifications. Check it out.

That's O.K. too, but I'm more of a bore evacuator sort of guy. It's interesting what can be done with these things, though. I just wish you could still get 91/30's for $45....aaaahhhhhh.
