removing high polish stainless steel finish

I recently had an out of town gunsmith convert the high polish stainless steel finish on a revolver to a brushed finish. Anyone know how he did it?

He probably used a wire wheel or really fine grit sand paper that is how i do it.

Stainless finish

I believe you are right. I saw a segment on How It's Made and that's how they were making brushed stainless sheet panels. The gunsmith probably used a die grinder with a wire wheel would be my guess.

If it's high polish, bead blast will work too. If it's passivated (not commonly found on SST guns) lot's of luck with anything.

I have used Scotchbrite to touch up SS when required. Usually the green is about right but there are other colors (grits).......

Bead blast, or like I took the shiny SS finish on my SS loaded Champ down to a brushed finish. I took the parts off until I had flat surfaces, and pushed it one way across medium grit emery cloth like plumbers use.
