Im guessing here but I think it is hollow point boat tail, but Ive never seen anything hollow point in a rifle round, um not sure what the m would stand for besides metal . Or milled maybe or military.

Payne?

Did you ever see those "hollowpoint" 7.62x39 shells? Looked like ball ammo taken to a drill press to meet minimum hunting regs in U.S.

Don't remember seeing it 7.62x54 though.

Hollow Point Boat Tail but I'm not familiar with the 'M' but possibly could mean Match.
After doing some further research it most likely means Metal jacketed.

For a good informing brochure, go to your local gun shop and pick up a Sierra bullet brochure, it has a legend that gives the meaning of abbreviations. OR contact their web site and request one.

Google is your friend!

Sellier & Bellot - Rifle ammunitions Match

It looks like it has Serra MatchKing hollow point boat tail bullets. The 180 grain offering is semi-pointed so it has a blunter appearance.

I hope this helps K-80

Brief common ammo (bullet) abrieviations:

M = Match Grade (generally sorted/matched for weight and length)
BT = Boat Tail (without this designator ammo is generally flat bottomed)
HP = Hollow Point (there are several HP versions from Sierra and others)
SP = Soft Point (generally means that the tip is lead formed for uniform flattening on impact)
FMJ = Full Metal Jacket (generally for military combat and target use and not for hunting).
Spitzer = Soft point with FMJ taper and flat bottom.

You will see combinations used frequently like MHPBT or FMJBT.

Note: FMJ may be illegal for game hunting in some states or counties as they have a tendancy to pass through the target with potential to do damage beyond the intended target.

If it's the Sierra 174 gn M BTHP the 'M' is for Matchking.

220 grain bullets are not very common these days but you can still get the Aussie Woodleigh 215gn round nose soft points from Midway
The 186gn FMJ is still quite common as well, I believe.

Boy, I would say!

The 203 gr Brown Bear and various 180-185 gr ammo from Lapua, Norma, Prvi and S&B is about as close as you'll get.

Nope, Sierra sells a 220 grain round nose soft point bullet.

What are you shooting at out of curiosity? LOL

203 gr. Silver Bear will stop pretty much anything except maybe an Rhino or Elephant. In those cases you should probably be shooting a 45-70 or larger.

Find somebody in your area that reloads. I'm sure they would make you a box of 50 or 100 ... for a price. As a point of reference for cost:

50 rounds of Norma brass = $70
50 rounds of Nosler .308 220 gr. Spitzer = $34 (luckily MN's can use .308)
Powder ~.3 lb (assuming about a 40gr. load) $8
50 Primers = $1.60

Total base cost $113.60 for 50 rounds. Plus time to load ~30 min. = $40

So figure $113.60 for 50 rounds of 220gr. handloaded ammo. $2.28 a round.

Silver Bear 203gr. = $10 for 20 or ~$0.50 a round.

Selling reloads takes a federal license. Some idiots will do it, but fed raps are not to be trifled with.

Not to mention I don't want to shoot reloads from somebody idiotic to do it without the license. We already know that his head is not right.
