Problem with my Hi-Point .40

So I bought a Hi-Point .40 from a friend. He sold it to me for $50 with the understanding it does not properly work. If I place a bullet in the chamber, it fires no problem, and ejects the spent casing. It will not strip another round out of the clip though. Any insight anyone can provide on what the problem may be would be greatly appreciated. I have not owned a pistol before this, and would not be sure what I am even looking for if I stripped it down. I could take it to a gunsmith, but with labor, etc, it might have been almost as cheap to but it new, especially if I don't figure out the problem before I take it in. Anyone run into this before? Is this a common problem? Does it sound like a possible warranty claim? HELP!

I would look at a breakdown drawing of the pistol and see if you can figure out what is supposed to happen in order for the next round to be pushed forward and see if something is broke, and if not broke , bent or is it just needing a good breakdown and cleaning and maybe then what ever the part is , will engage properly. Hi point firearms have a lifetime warranty that goes with the gun from owner to owner, it does not matter if you are the 100rdth owner or the first, it shouldnt cost you anything to have them fix it and they will usually send you a free magazine back to boot.

why waist your time on it send it back to highpoint without the mag and they will go through the whole gun and fix what needs to be fixed and send you out a fixed gun put back to new condition with a mag to boot.

I'd bet it's the magazine. Somebody might have dropped it on the feed lips and bent them. Try another mag first and see what happens. You need another mag anyway, one's not enough!

When the gun fires does the slide go forward again or does it stay mostly to the back.
Sounds like a bad recoil spring, with out knowing more.
But do like the others said. Send it to Iberia Firearms at this link. Contact Hi-Point Firearms at 1-866-948-4867

Call them, tell them whats going on and they will tell you how to ship it and all.
HP has a 100% warranty, to any and all owners.
