I had the "Big 6" in my 88 Joe. No crap, gas may as well been a V-8! 300cu good sized still. Even when I had good tires, tune up and drove it easy throught the 5 sp tranny it drank the gas.

Yeah, I've tryed it all, tune up,wires, dist. cap,new muffler...still crappy milage. But that six will pull almost anything! Whwn I bought it, I wondered why a six would have dual gas tanks...now I know...

I had a 96 F150 Eddie Bauer with that In Line 6 in it.......horrible gas milage but it could pull Noah's Arks up a boat launch!

Married into another vehicle.....had the Eddie and the regular F150. That made three vehicles between the two trucks and the wife's car, it just made since to get rid of the one that wasn't paid for.........163K miles on the F150..........sold the Eddie for $1500 over what I owed on it......you get the point.

Hope prices go down some before boatin' season hits this year. Otherwise, gas will be at least $3/gallon. At the rate my 502 drinks it, I won't get too far from the no-wake zone...

I drive a 96 Eddie Bauer Explorer (Red) V-6 with 70K+ miles on it and gets terrible mileage. I've kept records on it for every mile so these figures represent the long term mileage...18-19 miles/gal if it's mostly all highway driving and 13-14 miles/gal for mostly city driving. Fortunately, I don't drive a lot and it's paid for so I'll keep it hopefully for another 70K before trading it in for something else...probably a PU. Ox:nod:

Papa G: That $5.244 was the equivalent total for a gallon of gas in $US. Of course, they advertise gas in liters only. As I recall, tax was not shown in the advertised prices for their petrol. Regarding what they do with their gasoline tax income...that's a good question. The roads I traveled on were in excellent condition but were very narrow and crooked. Expressways were much better kept that those I'm used to in my part of the USA. I suppose they have some of the same problems we do in that politicians, and the Queen, skim off too many pounds for their favorite projects and let the poor blokes keep paying those schillings. My CJ7 gets pretty good gas mileage for what it is. About 24 mpg on the highway, and just under 19 in the city. The odometer reads 122,000, but I put in an ATK-rebuilt 258 at 100,000. And, it runs synthetic oil exclusively. Plus, with all of the other goodies on it, it's not light. A Warn winch, on-board welder, air compressor and hot shower attachment add to the fun when camping, and it's running 31-10.50's with 3.73 gears. Not bad, if you ask me...

Gas went up to 1.66 today, .07 jump with the same gas still in the storage tanks. My Merc with a 4.6L V8 gets about 28 mpg on the highway, no matter how fast you drive it (up to 80mph), in town it drops to about half. My wife's Taurus gets about 24 mpg highway but only only drops to 20 in town. The 64 3/4 ton gets 12 mpg which isn't bad from what I read about other trucks here. 30 years of technology has only added 3 to 4 mpg and about 20K to 25K to the price.

Down to $1.559 today? Odd I thought, but I didn't question the gas station attendant about it for sure!
