Maybe they're just testing it to see it's effectiveness if they thought against someone with such a weapon? I really don't know why they need this weapon. It generates 39,000 lbs of muzzle energy compared to only(haha, yeah only) 14,000 lbs generated by the .50 BMG, which is just staggering.

yeah but I thought most shoulder fired 20mm rounds are a shortened version of the 20x102mm round so it will not generate 3300 fps but more like 2500 fps, unless this is a different type than i am thinking of

Red face

Well, that superb paragon of Federal Sniperdom, Lon Horiuchi, only managed to nail ONE lone baby-toting female 'right-wing home-grown terrorist' with his rifle. NOW, they can nail the whole family (ie. 'terrorist cell') with one shot.....

I guess they think they need it for something like this. Although the right place at the right time would be pretty slim I would think.
I honestly dont even remember hearing about this. Wonder what I was doing then??

No, it shoots the same 20x102mm round that aircraft cannons fire.

It's considered a destructive device. $200 tax stamp and it's all yours.

One second while I laugh out loud....

hitting an aircraft while its in the air and moving, with a single round, would be like killing a charging elephant out right with one shot out of a .22 short CB, it might happen, but Satan will be wearing a sweater.....

ok, let me rephrase...why does the FBI need a weapon that shoots a cartridge capable of taking down aircraft?

If it is for "sniping" then how in the world would you get it to your "hide"or "shooting" site? Looks awful big and heavy to tote around to me. Andy

Seems more like an alternative to a bazooka to me. I'm sure it would kill any non Abrhams tank.

I don't have a clue why the FBI needs such a weapon, but I can sure understand why they want one. If someone would buy me one, I'd be all over it.
