Must have been my Dad, he took me to see the Saturday matinee cowboy films. I always wanted to be a cowboy, that's why I eventually got into the Oil game.

Grew up in a family that hunted/trapped for food/fur,The shooting was just a means to accomplish the end.Very little practice, just know how far you could shoot and make a one shot kill.I don't think anyone did it to just be killing.I probably came the closest by being a varmint hunter. It isn't the killing even there, but the challenge of hunting and long range shooting, plus exterminating destructive pest,s. ,,,sam.

Pappy took me squirrel hunting first time at 8. Used a Winchester Model 67 single shot bolt .22. You had to shoot straight or you didnt get your tree rat. Later that year shot my BIL's 12 guage pump and loved that. I wanted to shoot that all day.

Grandfather, father and two uncles...not just shooting, but hunting (there's a difference), fishing and reloading. Sean Connery in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was almost quoting my grandfather when he says "If you can't do it with one bullet, don't do it at all." Each one was different when it came to firearms preferences and all would box my ears (literally) if I didn't pay attention to safety first.

My mom took me shooting in 3rd grade with her .380 she just got. It was the first time either one of us shot a gun, and even at 9 years old I shot better than she did.

My dad and my Great-Uncle Bill. Uncle Bill had a townhouse in Boston, one of those long, narrow ones that have a very narrow street frontage but a deep property. He had enough room in the basement to set up a 50 foot range for his .22s.

We went to visit him and Aunt Trudy once, and he got to talking about his new .22 to Dad. They went down to the basement and I trailed along without being invited. I sat on the stairs and watched them take turns with it. Finally I asked them, timidly, "Uncle Bill, could I try it?"

He looked at Dad, who frowned (doubtless thinking of what Mom would say) and finally nodded okay. They gave me the Basic Firearms Safety lecture, and then put up a new paper target and sat me down at the shooting bench with a rest (they'd been firing offhand). Dad explained how to line up the target and breathe, then helped me load a round. I aimed and fired.

Smack through the bullseye!

They let me fire a total of 5 rounds, all in the black and three of them in the 9 and 10 rings. I don't know who was prouder, Uncle Bill, Dad, or me.

Mom of course had kittens when she found out they'd let me shoot, but quieted down when they told her how well I'd done and pointed out they'd been watching me like hawks the whole time and I'd done nothing unsafe. Right then, I was hooked.

In my safe is the very .22 my dad let me use as a kid. He always believed in kids learning about guns, hunting and trapping. Mom not so much. My friends dad also took me every place and every time they went hunting or fishing. I have tried to pass on the same love to all my kids (each gets a .22 and a shotgun for chirstmas and birthday around 8-12 years old) and as many of thier friends as possible.

Both of my parents weren't really into guns. My first time shooting was with my aunt and her son (my cousin, who is about 15 years older than me) about 5 years ago. We took turns firing a .22LR handgun and a .22LR rifle that day. About six months later we fired a different .22LR rifle and then a couple 12 gauge shotguns at clay pigeons. Good times. My dad is finally coming around with firearms, and to a lesser extent my mom also.

I got into through my pop. He took me out to the range with him early last year when I moved back to town. Since then Ive made the benchrest team at our range.
First time he took me hunting was around June last year, I used our .222, 12gauge, our .270 and our .22s. Shot a few kangaroos, some rabbits and a hare.

i got into firearms because of my uncle.
we always had guns in our home coming up but after my mom and dad split that changed.
my uncle is the one that taught me how to fight, shoot, and generally kick ass.
he bought me my first two weapons, a mosberg 12 gauge pump action and a baretta 45.
he took me to my first range, helped me get my ccw at 21, and introduced me to the shooting instructor that i have now.
the lessons he taught me saved my life when i got robbed at gun point.
whenever he's in country we go shooting and he always shows me something to improve my technique.

father got me into it, later i was at a military high school that had a real rifle team not one of those air rifle teams, so i lettered in that too then i joined the military and it sorta became my job.
im educating my son on BRM and safety now and when he can safely handle hand guns , i will give him more training on that as well.

an educated family is a safe family

My Dad and grandpa. I was probably 15 before I met an adult male that wasn't a WWII vet.

my dad had a crappy 22 rifle that I never shot and I used to have a pellet gun as a kid, we only went shooting just a couple times together. My desire to be equipped to defend myself and my family as an adult now just comes from my own philosophy & understanding that the world can be cruel sometimes and you should be ready for it
