Received my M44 from IO yesterday. I purchased the rifle advertised as in "very good" condition with accessories. The ad also stated that all their rifles had "excellent bores and matching bolts". After dissasembly and cleaning I found that all exposed metal was in the white (small dings-no pitting). The metal protected by the stock was like brand new (dark blueing). The rifling in the bore was well defined, clean and there was no pitting. If by matching they mean that bolt had the same serial number as the receiver, it did not. The bolt head did match the bolt body (same markings). The receiver was round and was marked 1945. The markings on the receiver indicated production at the Izhevsk arsenal. The stock had some small scratches but no dings or cracks. The accessories were in good condition. The cleaning kit and oiler were original. I am not sure on the sling and the mag pouch.
Overall for $45.00 dollars plus shipping, I am pleased on what I received. I have an interesting piece of firearms history as well as a low cost shooter. If the rifle will hold a decent group at 100 yards, I will also have a great deer rifle.

Yep! The bayonet will be great for squirrel kabobs! I don't know how much meat will be left after the impact of a 200gr. soft point bullet though?

While checking out the info at www.mosin-nagant.net I saw a M44 with a grenade attachment. Were these adapters screwed/pinned on or attached by hand (twist on) as needed? Can you buy these and where?

These are great little rifles. I paid $80 for my unissued carbine, but I didn't get the extra toys you got. The same vendor had some grungy ones for $50, but I wanted a "purdy one".

Last weekend I was shooting it at the range. I extended the bayonet and began blasting offhand - no rest. I was hitting soda cans on the 110 yard berm! Shoulda got these new glasses long ago!
Of course, I got the jokes about the bayonet - "you ready for those coke cans to charge ya?"
I'd always heard these carbines were balanced for shooting with the bayo extended - seems to work!

No pics yet. It's been snowing here in the mountains for two days. They (NOAA) expect it will snow until Monday afternoon (30+ inches). I have a cheap pen cam that works best outside. I did get a chance to fire a test round in the yard yesterday (check for headspace problem). Yea I know, I should have checked it with a headspace gauge first (didn't have one). You know the old saying, "God hates a coward". I stood about ten yards from the banking and fired from the hip (I'm nuts but I ain't stupid). The old girl made quite a roar! That 200 grain soft point hit the bank and made an impressive crater. I got showered with dirt and snow for the effort. The fired case ejected with no problem. There was no flattening of the primer. There was no powder residue on the case neck. I checked the fired case dimensions at four points (neck, just below the shoulder, midway on the case and the web) against an unfired case using a 0-1.0" micrometer. This was what I found:

Neck - Unfired .335 Fired .337
Shoulder - Unfired .460 Fired .465
Midway - Unfired .470 Fired .474
Web - Unfired .485 Fired .489

This was the Wolf bi-metal 200 gr. soft point bullet. I am no expert, but I don't believe based on the above results that the rifle is going to blow chunks (with this ammo).

glad it fired ok!!! i know what ya mean,i love the 200gr bullets in my 91/30too! i reload with sierra 200gr HPBT match king with 45 grns of winchester 760 impressive groups at 100 yrds (after i shimmed the barrel and cut a target crown in to it that is) lol
