I grew up in the 50's. Never heard mention of anyone being "disenfranchised"
of their 1st Ammendment rights. 60's....same thing.....70's not much....just from a few flower children. 80's I heard some on rare occasions in the press, but in the 90s and since the internet, it seems to be peoples main gripe. NO ONE .......NOT ONE SOUL, has said a person can't state an opinion or state their thoughts on this site. NOT ONE. But...when a few folks are told it must be done so in a polite and meaningful way....well...suddenly their 1St. Amendment right has been viciously stolen from them. Can anyone explain this phenomenon to me ?

It is sad, that most younger Americans
CAN NOT identify, more then 2 Amendments, out of 27.
AND they don't know, what they really say.
Folks hear soundbites, and think they know what it means. Article [I.]
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Article [II.]
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. United States House of Representatives - Amendments to the Constitution

Folks hear soundbites, and think they know what it means. | The sad thing is that those two amendments they do know are only the 1st and 5th. And the 5th only out of necessity.

But...when a few folks are told it must be done so in a polite and meaningful way....well...suddenly their 1St. Amendment right has been viciously stolen from them. Can anyone explain this phenomenon to me ? | I took a bit of a hiatus, and since I have returned, I notice political threads being shut down in the Powder Keg. When I left, they were being allowed for the most part, less those that became hostile and belittling of others. But, now they are all being shut down. Just shows me a bit of lack of interest in the true meaning of our rights. I agree wholeheartedly that this is a private site and can be run as the owner(s) wish. But, for them to sit on a soap box about the 2nd Amendment while shoveling a pile of dog doo on the 1st...just irks me a bit. And yea, yea... "You can post political crap on your blog" HAH, as if most people here ever read a single blog of any of the other members, unless the writer happens to be in the clique that some people are in here. But, for most of us, we don't fall in that category, and any of our blogged gripes and political topics go unread and unseen. So, the 'post to your blog' escape is a bit of a moot point. And, again...I don't care if there are or aren't political threads. I just find it goofy is all.

Who says what the freak or where's the fork?
Moose, I used to have a language problem but as I got older and became a dad I figured it best to lose that bad habit. Being an elementary school teacher it was a must that there were no slip ups! I understand that what I asked was probably a "bit much" but being a private site there are areas of clean up that might help others with their French or make them think twice anyway. Sorry I wasted your time.
