Thumbs down 4D reamer rentals, Casper Wy

Has anyone besides me had trouble with these people, I have rented from this company twice and both times it has turned out bad. The first time i rented a 22 hornet reamer and they called me three weeks after i had returned the reamer and want to know why i was keeping their tool for so long , and after telling them the actual date that i had returned it and the postal receipt that showed the delivery date they finally found that it was their mistake. I then at a later date rented a .284 winchester reamer used it then checked it to make sure that it was in the same condition as i had received it i sent it back, the a month and a half later i am informed that it was damaged and must pay to have it repaired. I had no way to dispute the finding of the tech so i had to pay. This totally unacceptable and i will never use their service again and i would suggest that anyone wanting to rent a reamer to look to some other service.
Steve

While I probably would never need use of their services, I'll gladly pass the info around to my friends.

I need a 223 Wylde reamer, I could rent it or maybe I will buy one. Is there a good place to do it?

Yes we did make a book keeping error in that case. I recall we called to ask if the tool had been returned, as we had a client waiting for the tool. We endeavor to offer the best tools and service possible to all clients, but we are human.

Normal practice is for us to call the client before any work is done to the reamer, I have to assume from Steve's comments that we dropped the ball in his case. I checked the notes and I see that the reamer was shipped to PTG on the 29th of Dec. 2009. We called Steve when the tool came back to us from Pacific Tool who does all of our resharp work. He was kind enough to return our call. It is clear that we are in disagreement as to the condition of the reamer when it returned from Steve's shop. The "Tech " Steve refers to is a Gunsmith with over 25 years full time experience. Steve and I discussed the problem with the reamer and the fact that if damage exceeds our ability to repair here in the shop we send reamers to PTG for inspection and/or repair. They try hard to perform the least expensive repair possible, as they understand the expenses involved in our business.

I want to set out that Steve expressed his displeasure clearly, and I listened. I told him that it was more important to me to resolve the situation in a way that would satisfy us both. So, I split the cost of the repair with him. Consequently I was surprised when Steve told me he has posted this Flame.

This is not a debate, so I will not be posting on this thread again. I just wanted to post the other side of the story, you be the judge.

I would like to know if that damages that had to be repaired were above and beyond normal wear and tear?

If the damages were normal wear and tear then it is the responsibility of the rental company to take care of it. If the damages were not normal wear and tear, then it is the renter that has to pay.

I know from personal experience that not every rental company check what they rent out... they just charge it to the next poor sucker that happens to get the equipment. So even though I am neutral on this.... I have to give sbowers the benefit of the doubt and say that he got some crap that he had to pay for, unless of course 4D can otherwise prove the condition before rental.

Steve Is a Master Gunsmith and Rifle Builder...He claims the reamer was evidently sharp enough to make a very smooth chamber on the rifle he built and he mailed it back after use. Now as a machinist and gunsmith myself, I know that reamers will get dull , but that is part of Normal Usage and how many times was that reamer used before Steve Got It and it needs to be sharpened ??? Now if the Reamer Had been chipped or Damaged , that is another issue entirely , but to charge him for sharpening a Used reamer , even 1/2 the cost is not good business practice in my opinion. That would be like the rental company charging me to sharpen a lawnmower blade after I cut my grass...aint gonna happen ! I pay for the use of a tool , not the maintenance...

Steve I realize your a moderator so please take this as intended, just an answer to your basic question. I have used 4D Reamer Rentals since they were in SC. I have never had a problem with their service or their tools. They have always shipped on time and been nice on the phone. Just my two cents.

I know that Steve Bowers is an honest and upright man that doesn't lie.I have never heard anything bad about 4D.I do know if I rented a reamer and used it once and got charged even half price for sharpening,I would be irritated.Fortunately I only have about a two hour drive to pick up any kind of tool in that catigory.I hit the gunshops on the way to and fro so it takes all day. ,,,Dave Manson Precision Reamers - NSSF Marketplace ,,,sam.
