What would you or did you grab first during a home invasion
Does anyone have any home invasion stories to share? If not then what would you do if you encountered one? What would you grab first? Would you be prepared to take a life or would you freeze? Just thought this would be a fun topic and something we all need to think about and be prepared for.
I would grab my Springfield XD in .357 sig. (hollow points). If I had time I would do my best to shout warnings and try to identify as not a friendly either by sound or with a light. No one knows how it would go down but most of the time you probably don't have much time. And bottom line is I got two kids down the hall and protecting them is my first priority.
Grabbed the shotgun and one round of #7. Slammed it home. Racked it. Hit the living room. Dumb standing there and dumber standing in kitchen. Stopped in doorway from bedroom hall. Dumb had a knife, yelled and charged. I leveled and blasted. No more dumb. Dumber kicked rocks and I never saw him again.

It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.
I never had one make it into the house, but had two instances where I had to grab the gun and chase them off. The first time was when I was living in Colorado Springs. I had just moved into a new apartment, hadn't been there a week, when a big dude came pounding on my door trying to break it down with a crowbar screaming about how I was supposedly sleeping with his girlfriend (or rather the guy that just moved out). I threw open the door and with the barrel of my Beretta .45 Mini-Cougar (I still hate myself for selling that gun), loudly informed him that he had the wrong house. I think the combination of me actually throwing the door open and advancing with the pistol shocked him stupid (well, more so than already) and he fell backwards down the concrete stairs, I lived on the second floor. I grabbed my handcuffs from my duty gear that was sitting by the door and followed him down the stairs, keeping the gun pointed at him, and informed him that I was calling the police. I cuffed him and sat on the stairs with the gun in one hand and the phone in the other. The cops were really cool about the whole thing and jokingly asked me if I wanted to do the rest of their job and finish the arrest for them! Did the statement, but didn't press charges as I figured the fall down the stairs and the large wet spot on the front of his pants was punishment enough. He came back a few weeks later and apologized to me. The second was when I was living in a townhouse here in Watertown and the wife heard some noise downstairs. I went down with my 12ga and saw a guy trying to jimmy open my patio door. I stood right in front of the door, flipped the dining room light on, racked the slide and drew down. He turned tail and was gone. I didn't find out until we ended up in court with the landlord after she tried to evict us because I wanted to terminate my lease because I was deploying, that it was actually the landlord's husband who tried to break in! I started talking with people around the complex, letting them know what had happened and telling them to keep an eye out, and found out that the two of them had been caught in several people's townhouses. They are now both in jail on various charges of identity theft and credit card fraud. I'm so glad I own my house now...
My wife was robbed at knife point when she was working at the dollar store that my in-laws owned. She kept her cool through it and did what she was told. The guy locked her in the back room but didn't see the back door. She ran out the back and to the gas station across the street to call the police. She couldn't give a great description, but we are pretty sure we know who it was. The police were never able to get enough to bring anyone in for it though. I'm proud of her being able to keep her cool under pressure. She usually gets flustered really easily.

I have a Remington 870 with short barrel loaded with alternating buckshot and slug loads. I have practiced getting this gun into action although,
praise the Lord, I have never had a home invasion.
Never been in the situation, but I have a few things at my diposal.
Under my bed I have my SA XDm9 with Hallow Points and my Bersa .380 as well. Next to my bed I have a Ka-BAR with serrated edge as well as a 3 cell Maglite.
*This is of course if I am sleeping or just in my bedroom.
If I was in my living room, I'd scramble to at least the kitchen where I could get my 8" chefs knife or 6" knife. If I could make it in time I'd get to my closet in the hallway and grab my Benelli 20gauge and a some rounds.
*This is of course if I was in my living room.
Am I willing to take a life? I can't answer that, because I have not been put in the option or situation where I would have to. Now could I do it? Yes, anyone can take a life. You just have to be willing to do so.
Willing and Could are two different things in my opinion.
I keep a 20" 8 shot mossy 12 loaded next to the bed. My AK only has the 5rd mags it came with right now. I have a 30rd mag inbound. As soon as that comes in it'll have that mag loaded in it in the closet.
If I hear that crack or bang from broken glass or a door knocked down I'm grabbing the 12 gauge and mama gets the AK.
IF anyone is stupid enough to enter MY HOME with ill intent for MY FAMILY I will not HESITATE to send them to their judgement. My little girl's safety is worth the lives of every BG in the world. Just line'um up, and give me enough ammo. I'll take them all down back to back to keep her safe.
I'm sure every father here feels the same about their families.

Wow this is an interesting thread. Glad I posted it. I think hearing other peoples stories helps you plan for yours, but hopefully that never happens. I also think having lots of lights outside and keeping your house locked are smart. You don't want to just invite them in. LOL!
Had three incidents where I had to make choices which were not related to my duties. One was I heard someone late at night around my old pickup trying to pry off wheel caps he wasn't very stealthy. So I crept out the side door and entertained him by screwing an 1858 Remington New Army into his ear while we waited for police. Second was a young feller peeping through bedroom and bathroom windows a neighbor and I "Subdued him" until the sheriffs could collect him no firearms were involved, third was a young man that wanted to be combative while I was working at a bar and grill. Since the owner was out of town and I was running the place alone I started carrying. Had a fella I knew get belligerant in the bar so I told him to leave. He went to his van and drove up in front of the doors and challenged me to come to the doors he wanted to show me something, So I pulled my vest aside showing him the butt of that M1911 and suddenly he gots real peaceable after I told him I didn't need to come out there I could reach him just fine from where I was! Had other run ins but those were when I was wearing a badge...

I tend to be a light sleeper. One night a friend of one of the kids who was spending the night got sick and called his mom to come get him. The kids rooms are all downstairs and he didn't wake up us adults and let us know anything was wrong. About 3AM I heard the front door creak open. I knew I'd locked it before going to bed. I slid out of bed picking up a M92 and flashlight. I could hear the stairs squeak as the intruder approached. When they got to the top of the stairs, I put the light on them and Cathy screamed. I was crouched there at the opposite end of the hall, in the nude, with a flashlight and gun on her. LOL.

Since I am at college and no guns are allowed, I would grab my lacrosse stick. It is a six foot titanium pole with another foot of plastic on the end. I figure i could use it pretty effectively if someone was coming at me with a knife.
On multiple occasions, I have grabbed my Glock 21, stoked with Federal Hydra-Shoks. The Glock has a Glock Tactical Light mounted under the barrel.
I sleep lightly, and a "bump in the night" generates a rapid deployment on my part. (I ALWAYS put on my slippers, just in case of broken glass.)
We also have multiple 12 gauge shotguns throughout the home, including one under my side of the bed. The Mrs. usually sleeps through my late night responses.
So far, the only thing close to a "home invasion" that we experienced, was a person testing the front door knob of our house. We always keep the doors locked (training from living in the city). As soon as I got to the front door (keeping to the side of it), I turned on the outside lights, and the person beat feet before I could get a look at them through the front window. I NEVER look through the "peep hole" and I NEVER open the door, when checking for an intruder, if they are in front of the door. Getting shot in the eye, or having the door shoved in my face would not be good.

You really do have to be dumb to charge someone with a shotgun pointed in your direction. wow...

I think I would freeze until they kept advancing...at that point they are gonna see the brief flash of the 870 barking.
