Does any one know what type of rifling was used in pre-1920 model 1899 barrels? I'm not looking for twist rate, but more for the style & how the rifling was made. I've got 2 barrels, but look a lot alike, but I don't know if they're both good or both bad.
The barrels don't have the sharp, distinct "Enfield" type rifling that my 12VLP has, but rather appear rounded, like the Metford originated "segmental" type of rifling (I'm using Jack O'Connors' Complete Book of Rifles and Shotguns as a reference, pg. 96).
Any idea? Or maybe someone with a mint rifle from the era could describe what they should look like for me?
Thanks,

Thanks for the info. If the rifling is supposed to be crisp and sharp, then both are NG. 'Course, now I can consider reboring/rechambering to .338 Federal...
