I think I may have a winner! At the auction tonight I got a very nice 10/22 rifle model - not the carbine - for a decent but not great price of $185. There's one in the local store in slightly better condition for $245, but that guy tends to be a little high.
My second buy, which I think was a good one, is a 4 screw Model 29 Smith with 6 1/2" barrel. I judge it to be close to 80% with some fair holster wear on the barrel, moderate tracking on the cylinder, and some minor holster wear on the front and back of the cylinder. The latest Blue Book puts it at $675 for 60% condition, $1000 for 90%. I paid $475, so I'm a happy camper. And as a bonus, I got a one of a kind fitted Amish made split hide leather holster with wear on the inside nicely coinciding with the wear on the gun. The action, both single and double, makes my Redhawk feel pretty crude.
I hope I do as well at the show tomorrow.
I almost jumped on a BRNO ZKW 22 Hornet complete with a period Weaver scope. The book puts it at $625 in 90% condition, and the gun was very close to that. There were 3 guys besides me in the bidding from about $450 up, jumping $25 about as fast as the auctioneer could call the bids. The winner paid $600 for it. I almost went the extra $25, but managed to avoid letting my auctioneer friend who was working the crowd cajole me into it. Hope I don't see one at the show tomorrow for major amounts above that.
The weekend's been fun so far.
